It's only other parallels are 3rd world countries (including the various terror states). All other "civilized" and largely educated countries manage to keep religious zealotry in check

Europe went though its religious phase when people didn't know as much about science, when the very notion of things like the sun does not revolve aound the earth was a NEW idea, not to mention dangerous to the powers that be. But, we've supposedly progressed since then, and apparently are more educated now

It is not as rabid as it seems.
Like anything else the news over-hypes everything.
Every one in America has the same rights regardless of there religious practice or lack there of.
The same cannot be said for Europe which bans religious articles of clothing in the public school system.

It actually isn't as rabid as it seems, its just that we have more freedom to be crazy on TV and in the media so it seems like it. Christians cannot claim the dominance they would like in America, so they get louder and louder.
