first of all sorry about your dad, i cant imagine what you went through.
Now to tattoos...This is something that can be done in a thousand different ways, but it has to be perfect. Think long and hard about what a special bond between you and your father was. Once you figue it out, talk to your tattoo artist about it and work something out. In august, Im getting a memorial piece for my grandfather who recently passed away. At first I was going to get a stream running down my side with his birth and death dates written in the water because fishing in the stream by his house was something we always did together.
But the more I thought about it, he wouldnt have liked the fact that I got something so obvious, and huge! So Im getting a treasure chest on my ribcage, He had a "treasure chest" that all his grandkids used to go through. We were enchanted by it, when in reality it just had old trinkets and stuff, but its a great memory for us all to share...
Thats what memorial pieces are all about., remembering the good times.

Mike G and John P...
you are the most disrespectful people I've ever seen in my life. If you hate tattoos STAY OUT OF THE TATTOO SECTION you stup!d morons. Be respectful. You are not men... you're pu$$ys for pickin on this poor girl when she had a simple question. We don't raid your "I have jock itch" questions with rude answers! Stay outta our turf! I should nail douche bags to you front door while your sleeping tonight.
Sheesh... what's wrong with people? No respect. Anyway, do whatever fits your father's personality. Was he a sports nut? Get is initials on a bat. Was he the family comedian? Get something happy. Was he protective? Get cupped hands. Was he religious? Get wings. Was he simplistic? Just get initials. Whatever fits him. Good luck. Ignore all the haters.

think of the one memory you have that means the most like him calling you a nick name or a place you went to etc like an amusement park. The tattoo will help you never forget those times you did have with him, then put "because of you" and what ever you called him dad or daddy then date he passed away

My mom died when I was 17. My first tattoo is a very small hummingbird at the small of my back because of a story she used to tell me. Apparently, she and I were discussing mice, on string hooked to the clouds when I was about 4 or 5. It was one of her favorite stories.
My advice is to pick something that always makes you think of your dad and smile. Think about the stories he told you, or the things you remember doing together.

Well, I read this really sweet story about this teenage girl who's father was killed in Iraq, and she got "Daddy's Girl" on her arm. I think that if you want to get one for your dad you should get something like that, if you get his initials or his name, then your boyfriend/husband might wonder who he was, then you would have to explain a lot. But if you get just some sweet little thing on your wrist or something, some people might ask about it, but they would respect you for it. I'm sorry about your dad being gone for twenty years, maybe you'll see him in heaven.

I agree with Mike G, forget the tattoo. If it is possible, visit his grave and leave some flowers. Say a prayer and thank him for the many memories you have of him in that short time.

Get a picture of him in a new frame. A tattoo is idiotic. Get a freakin' life. The guy is dead 20 years. He'd probably think you're an idiotic for getting any tattoo. INSTEAD, get a degree and a good job and make his memory proud.
