Are you asking if they go on a diet BEACAUSE they are depressed? Or if they are depressed because they are on a diet?
If it's the first one -- yes, depression often leads to weight loss.
If it's the second one -- yes, dieting often leads to depression because I can no longer eat Moose Tracks ice cream :-)

When you deprive yourself of the things that you want and need, sure you would feel depressed. I would be using an herbal supplement or somthing of the sort. It would give you the vitamins and minerals that your body needs while suppressing your diet so you just don't eat as much, therefore losing the weight fast and efficiently, yet safely and healthy. If you do what is best for your body, you will feel freat and you will look fantastic too! E-mail me if you have any questions or if you want some reccomendations on what to use.

Sometimes going on a diet does make you depressed. If you are experiencing this then try exercising also. You can go on brisk 20 minute walks When you exercise, your body releases a hormone called endorphins which helps to make you feel happier. The depression thing is probably only temporary and should pass . If it lasts and doesn't seem to be going away, you can go see your family doc and they can help to treat the symptoms until this feeling passes. Good luck.

only if you deprive yourself, if you eat balanced food and get enough nutrients you actually have to feel a lot better than before.
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats, take 300-400 calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
5-8servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water a day
5-6 small meals instead of 3 big ones (breakfast is the most important - make sure to get complex carbs like whole wheat bread, oatmeal, fruit etc)
4-6 times a week cardio for 30-50min, light weight training, many reps
no junk food, no sodas, no alcohol, no white flour (cakes, cookies, white bread, pasta etc.), nothing high in sugar (ice cream)

A lot of times people are depressed in general when they are overweight. But eating sensibly and most importantly exercise increase your energy and elevate your mood. Diets aren't the answer, it has to be a totally different mindset and a hint of motivation.

If you are a binge/emotional eater then go on a diet (controlled eating) yes, you may become depressed because you are asked to give up something that is very dear to you.

No different than asking a smoker to stop smoking, alcoholic to give liquor or a drug abuser to give up his drugs, all will become depressed because they have become so dependent on their fix.

Yes, but also because of how they may be dieting, they may lack energy and be listless and this may bring about a general feeling of malaise and I guess depression. The lack of energy and drive may also be interpreted as depression.

Yep because they have to give up certain kinds of foods, and this is hard!
Many times they have to come off of addictions, for instance sugar, and this is no fun! It takes focus and will power which isn't always easy for people who have eaten when and what they've wanted.
