We have a large, very advanced military, but the conflicts in Iraq, and afganistan, along with large deployments in Korea, Japan, and Germany, have stretched the forces we have to the breaking point. WIll there be a draft, like there is in a majority of the countries in the world? Mandatory service is common around the world, and the profesional military force is shrinking, not growing. SOmething needs to be done. If you want a draft, what kind of draft? SHould all 18-20 year olds serve for 2 years, should the rich get out of it, should only poor city kids, and country boys have to continue to shoulder the burden?

If we want to hold onto out grip on the world, we need more troops. We will be in the middle east for at least the next 10 years, at war. How do we fight, when recruitment is dropping every month, and soldiers keep dying and getting hurt?

God bless all the poor kids, and men fighting over there.

1st Buzz, the dems are pushing for a draft, because they feel that the country should be defended by all parts of the country, not just poor city and country kids, which make up a majority of the forces. Rangel wants a military made up of Americans from all socio economic classes.

And Recrutment is down Army girl. Big time. They are below their numbers almost every month, and yes a lot of soldiers have not been to iraq, because they are stationed elsewhere,, or are national gaurd or reserve units. The majority of troops over there are on their second or third tour, and it is takign a toll. Reenlistment is down, and recruitment is down.

If there is a conflict with Iran, whcih i feel is inevitable, there will be no choice but to start a draft. We can not sustain this current state of war without a new group of men and women to fight in it.

Back in 2003 Sen. Rangel submitted legislation to reinstate the draft. Also I have seen some other articles recently talking about this subject. If you look at how we need to protect our country and its interests, we definitely need to reinstate the draft. However, the thought of my nieces, nephews, daughters having to serve in the military makes me very uneasy.

First, Iran is pushing for favorable world opinion and higher Oil prices. They are not dumb. Look at your gas prices since they Iranians captured the British soldiers. Listen to the rhetoric coming from Europe and the Middle East, those supposedly friendly Islamic nations.
I do not believe the US will attempt to invade Iran. Not viable.
The US does not need to invade. Just put a couple of Nukes into Iran, One into Qom and one into Tehran. No need to follow up with an invasion. It would be a flag to the Islamic nations that we mean business. Also putting one small clean nuke into Syria will curtail the Roderic coming out of Syria.
The rest of the Islamic nations would know we mean business.
The war with Islam will not however go away. It will be with us until Christ returns and puts a stop to it.
The Democrats are pushing for a draft, and will push for more taxes. That is their response to the problems the US faces at this time.
Our government is throwing out a smoke screen to cover the major problem facing the US. We have become a debtor nation, A service nation. 80% of Jobs in the US now are service jobs.
The housing industry controls the economy, that is in reverse of what should be. The economy should drive the housing market.
The US is teetering on the brink of collapse economically. Keep your eye on the job market. Take a look at where the manufacturing has gone. Such a shame however people vote these a--holes into office and they do dirt to the voters.

Because Bush and the born again Republicans have made such a mess of things with their religious war for oil, the American forces are stretched so thin, we coundn't defend squat right now.

The only answer is a draft and I would guess it will come before the end of the year. The Selective Service Administration has already started gearing up for a draft... the American people just haven't been told.

I don't think that America's involvement in a very possible Iranian War would be to the extent as in Iraq and Afghanistan. But the Dems are getting us pulled out of Iraq way too soon, so there may be enough troops for a full invasion anyway.

Nuclear conflict? Prolly no longer yet its a possabilty. As for a draft your prolly risk-free sufficient, opinion is already divided over Iran a draft could provide the anti-conflict factions in Washington numerous help. Alternativly you need to enlist interior the army or Airforce and sign up for a job in the back of the traces or in a help place that should save you off the front traces.

If the republican leadership want to lose every election for the next 100 years, all they need do is pass another draft to support the current situation.

That is very unlikely to happen.

Especially in light of organizations like Blackwater USA. Join a private army instead.

No, there will not be a draft.

CNN and ABC are not reliable sources of news on the war on terrorism. My brother is in Iraq right now. He tells a completely different story than what you will see on any liberal media outlet.

btw....recruitment is not dropping, that is false. There are alot of people in the military who have not gone to Iraq or Afghanistan yet.

In a fox hole in the sand.

Get a grip the only ones who want the draft are liberals.
If you want a draft so bad just sign up and stop playing games.

There shouldn't be a draft because we should just suck every drop of oil out of the middle east, nuke the **** out of it, then sell the glass the desert becomes to lower the national deficit. Until they are finally gone there can be no peace.

Not now. Maybe, after a Dem gets elected in '08. Bush could never get a draft through congress.
