We have a large, very advanced military, but the conflicts in Iraq, and afganistan, along with large deployments in Korea, Japan, and Germany, have stretched the forces we have to the breaking point. WIll there be a draft, like there is in a majority of the countries in the world? Mandatory service is common around the world, and the profesional military force is shrinking, not growing. SOmething needs to be done. If you want a draft, what kind of draft? SHould all 18-20 year olds serve for 2 years, should the rich get out of it, should only poor city kids, and country boys have to continue to shoulder the burden?
If we want to hold onto out grip on the world, we need more troops. We will be in the middle east for at least the next 10 years, at war. How do we fight, when recruitment is dropping every month, and soldiers keep dying and getting hurt?
God bless all the poor kids, and men fighting over there.

1st Buzz, the dems are pushing for a draft, because they feel that the country should be defended by all parts of the country, not just poor city and country kids, which make up a majority of the forces. Rangel wants a military made up of Americans from all socio economic classes.
And Recrutment is down Army girl. Big time. They are below their numbers almost every month, and yes a lot of soldiers have not been to iraq, because they are stationed elsewhere,, or are national gaurd or reserve units. The majority of troops over there are on their second or third tour, and it is takign a toll. Reenlistment is down, and recruitment is down.
If there is a conflict with Iran, whcih i feel is inevitable, there will be no choice but to start a draft. We can not sustain this current state of war without a new group of men and women to fight in it.
