Hi

There could be many explanations to your problem..the idea is to weed the situations out..until you find the reason..then correct it...

redness and soreness can be due to a number of things...
1. are you cleaning your earings in between uses...you should soak them in alcohol
2. clean your ears with alcohol and a cottonball ever day and especially when you change your earings.
3. are your earings to heavy? This could be pulling on your earlobes..and making them red and sore.
4. are your earings to small? they could be pulling thru your holes..ouch! (this has happened to me before)
5. your ears are sensitive to the metal that your earing posts are made out of. try buying a better quality earing..14 k gold for the posts...and up..are a good start...they are made with a better quality metal....
6. are the backs of the earings too tight on your ear lobe..sometimes this can cause swelling and soreness when you take them out.and actually leave them on...

good luck and I hope your ears feel better soon....: )

I had the same problem. I am sorry to say, but you are allergic to the metal in your earrings. Clean the ear lobe with alcohol. If you can't stand the sting from the alcohol, use poroxide. Don't put any earrings in until they are completely healed. Neosporin or some other antibiotic cream will help to speed up the healing time.

I had to resort to wearing only surgical steel earrings. Most people can wear surgical steel. Surgical steel was originally invented for surgical tools to prevent any kind of an allergic reaction in patients. They are not expensive, and may be even cheaper then gold or silver.

So, bottom line.....clean your ears , ....keep them earring free until they heal, and then try the surgical steel earrings.

Hint: Walmart sells some really awesome surgical steel earrings that are not at all expensive.

How heavy are the earrings?? I have had my ears pierced for many years and when I wear earrings my ears ache afterwards. Some people just have sensitive ears. Try giving the earrings a rest after a while then put them back in. You should also try to give your ears a rest for a day or so. But you also should check to see if you have allergies to any of the types of metal.....Good Luck!

You don't say if your ears are pierced or if you wear clip on ear rings.

You might be wearing the earings too tight. Or you might have an infection in your pierced ears. Four times a day put rubbing alcohol on the ears.

You might be allergic to the gold in the earings. Go to the store and ask for earings that aren't prone to cause allergy.

Some people are allergic to silver, some people are allergic to nickel, but few people are allergic to gold. Try wearing a pair of earrings made of a different type of metal. If you find that it is not an allergic reaction then you have an infection in your ear lobe. Don't use Hydrogen Peroxide, it kills your white blood cells along with any bacteria that are in the wound. Betadyne is an effective anti-microbial agent that won't kill your white blood cells, but it can stain your skin. Use anti-biotic ointment to help prevent infection.

U probably have allergy to nickel. to avoid the pain and reaction use greater than 18 carat gold/platinum earrings or nickel free jewellary like simply whispers or from avon. Use plastic screws instead of metal . Also u can pain the surface of earring in ctc with your skin with clear nailpolish. To reduce the redness and pain apply emmolient or steroid cream.

You are having a reaction to the base metal in the earring. You need to upgrade! Try 24K gold OR better. Another alternative is stainless steel or sterling silver. Its just a hit and miss thing. Another alternative to throwing away all your earrings is to put a coat of clear nail polish on it where it touches your ear.

Mine do the same thing. As others have mentioned, try switching to real gold earrings and see if that helps. Also, you can apply some neosporin to the posts of the earrings before you put them in. This seems to help me.

Never wore earrings but have dated a lot of girls who have, and they've said that you need to clean them with alcohol regularly. Also, you might be allergic to the metal in the part that goes through your ear, I'd try using gold instead of silver (or vice versa) or platinum. Good Luck!
