Is it accurate that the Russians have developed a relatively inexpensive sea/air torpedo/missle (the "Sizzler" ) that has speed and evasive capabilities that can't be stopped by current U.S. technology?
Are the Russians selling this weapon to any nation that will buy it?
Does this weapon easily compromise our extremely expensive, very important and highly manned aircraft carrier fleet?

Why do people ignore the battle field performance of past Russian weapons and keep acting as if the latest thing is so good we cannot defend against it?

Especially when the thing has suffered catastrophic mechanical failure in 90% of its tests?

I would not be worried about the 'sizzler' unless they actually can make it work.

The U.S. military claims of non existant threats to boost their defenses is well founded. Even the F-22 was built to address an aircraft that was destroyed at an air show and never rebuilt. The Commanche was built (then cancelled) to address a Russian craft where the chief test pilot and designer were killed.

The stealth destroyer was built as a way to defeat terrorists even though terrorists don't carry radars with them.

The sizzler is not a torpedo, it's a low flying missle which may or may not work. If the thing did work, the SLAT system was built by the French and Italians to defeat those kinds of weapons. The missle also has to be in range of the ship, which could be 500 to 600 miles out from the enemy.

Also the missle has to be in direct contact with that ship. If a destroyer or cruiser is in the way, the missle would probably be an easy target for those kinds of ships.

Maybe you are thinking of the Shkval torpedo (which the Iranians have said they developed into the Hoot).

The " sizzler " is a cruise missile, not a torpedo.

What most people don't seem to remember when they read about the " sizzler missile " is that it is not a supersonic missile.

It is a sub sonic missle with a 300 KM range.

That has a super sonic burst capability during its terminal guidence phase of 10 KM.

Navy ships are outfitted with both

RIM-7M/P Sea Sparrow a supersonic anti air/anti missile that have a range of 19 KM.

and

RIM-162 ESSM supersonic anti air/anti missile with a range of 50 km.

Both could shoot down a Sizzler well before if came into terminal guidence range where it would go supersonic.

Not counting the fact that an aircraft or submarine would have to be within 300 km of the fleet to launch a sizzler in the first place.

The Sizzler is a real and credible threat. Its existence has been known for a minimum of 6 years by the US DoD.

I read some posters claim its a joke. It isn't. Charles McQuery, the DoD chief weapons tester, has threatened to shut off ALL funding of new weapons systems (almost 90B worth) until the "sizzler" is addressed.

This weapon is supersonic and has the ability to dodge and evade even AEGIS defense systems and its sole purpose is to sink US Carriers.

Anyone who claims otherwise is an ignorant blowhard.
