I've asked this question before, and have yet to find an atheist who wouldn't vote for a born-again if they're qualified.

Yes. Actually all the candidates for major office that I've voted for have been christians and that would include both Carter and Clinton who, as you say, made a point of professing their christian faith.
For people who think more logically than many christian Americans, what someone wants to do once in office is more important than what they do on Sundays.

If they are too busy professing a faith they aren't busy enough addressing the ISSUES, regardless of party.
There is the forest, and there are the trees.
(And sometimes professing anything is just done to get the vote of the sheeple who are impressed by the trees. Remember that when that's all you are evaluating, a bait and switch may be in progress.)
******
The flip side is ... if you voted for someone and he/she turned out to be the most honorable person you ever heard of, and they did everything right, would you be upset if they later revealed that all along they were an atheist?

Jimmy Carter is a better example of a Christian than George Bush is.

Yes. I'm a bit of an end-justifies-the-means kind of person on a few issues.
Frankly, here's what I care about:
Good People
doing Good Work
in a Good Way
for Good Reasons
I'd much rather the whole world were filled with people who disagreed with me theologically but could be counted on to do the right thing, rather than the other way around.

Well look at Bushie Boy's track record. Religion has nothing to do with ability to do the job. So if someone professed to be an Athiest, and could do a better job than the shrub, then by all means I'd vote for him.

If he seemed reasonable about it. I didn't vote for George Bush because he isn't reasonable about anything. Besides, Bush may profess to be a Christian, but his actions say something completely different.

Yes. I look past the religion. If they have good ideas ( ideas that I agree with) about how to run the country, how the country should interact with other countries, etc., then I believe the person is worth voting for.
