With restrictions on books and movies in the USA based on sexual content, adult content, and violence, why is the Bible excluded from an R rating - shouldn't it be illegal to expose underaged children to it? Is this not a double standard? The Bible is available on CD and DVD - kids don't have to read it anymore, thus it should be held to the same standards as "those evil heavy metal bands" or any Hollywood movie, should it not?

Some of you seem to think that the end justifies the means - as long as there is a show of consequences, then whatever it takes to get there is acceptable - or do you only apply this to the Bible? How about a 2 hour Hollywood orgy mass murder movie for 8 year olds with lots of breasts and penises and blood and guts where the last 60 seconds is spent on showing that it was God's will that all the sexual deviants die, and then the mass murderer gets the electric chair. Should that be a G rated movie? It's a modern parody of a lesson in the Bible, after all.

If the MPAA were asked to rate the Bible it would probably receive an 'X', and not just an 'R'.
Apparently, the people who gave me thumbs down haven't read their Bible...

I have been religious for as long as I can remember and I always had a Bible of my very own- no pictures, no censoring, no sugar coating. Granted, I did have an awesome book that I still love to this day that talked about all the major Bible stories like Adam and Eve, Noah's Ark, King David, wise King Solomon, etc. etc. in a kid friendly, simplistic way. It had beautiful pictures too :D But the Biblical references and scriptures were always present. I have never had a problem with the content of the Bible. I never viewed it as grossly sexual, perverted or violent, even as a young child. And I've been familiar with the whole thing for many, many years.
I have only fond memories of learning about the Bible, especially since my Dad would read a story from that book to me every night in a big rocking chair before bed. I would usually fall asleep in his lap; I give him due credit for instilling in me a love of reading and knowledge that continues to this day :0)
I really must agree with Pollywantacracker. History books and even many cartoons (not that I'm anti-cartoon) are far worse than anything the Bible has to offer, especially since the Bible always shows the consequences of wrongdoing. In most instances, forms of entertainment do not show any consequences for violent or incorrect behavior.
I think you may be picking apart a book that, as a whole, contains an uplifting and encouraging message that should be shared with all people, not just adults.

when I was little, I didnt have a bible of my own, I had a book of Bible stories, which they were mostly like Noah's ark, and Jesus feeding a thousand with just 1 loaf and 2 fish... they were just stories like that, put into basic English so that a child could understand. I know lots of people who dont give their children "real" bibles until they're about 8 years old, and they just buy the "children's bible" or something like that...
My mum insisted that although I could read at a very young age (I was reading at like 3/4 years old) I couldnt handle the stuff that was written in the bible, its heavy stuff. My mum's a Roman Catholic

Because the Bible's inclusion of violence and sex is not for titillation but for learning. The inclusions do not promote violense and abhorrant sex but show the reader the outcome of such.
By the standards you are suggesting, most of history should be categorized the same way. So, is it logical that history should be homogenized before teaching our children? (This last question is by default rhetorical, as history books ARE homogenized to cover over the gross misconduct of our beloved ancestors).
What I would like to see in your accusation is at least two examples from the Bible that should be rated not readable by children, and why.
A blanket statement without supporting evidence is recognizant of your inability to provide support for your claim.
As a person who has had the opportunity to visit many different Bible churches, I have to applaud the JW's for not holding back the clear teachings of the entire Bible, and watering it down as the rest of so-called Christian churches do.
Wisdom? Ha! Where does the Bible say if a person is raped they have to marry the rapist?

I think it should be Adults only for the fact you should not fill a child's mind with so much confusion !
A child should have the right to enjoy life then when older enough have an open mind to explore the bible an make their own minds up : )
Teaching them to be Spiritual is not then same as teaching them the bible !

The Bible is for everyone! Jesus died for our sins so we can have eternal life! I teach a children's Sunday School class and they understand this so why should it only be for adults?
