I was looking on a creationist website and came across an atheist website that was a "response" to the Creationist website. They were going down the line of evey creationist claim and showing how the Creationists were wrong.

My dad saw the site (He's our pastor) and told me to shut it off immediately, that I was only allowed to look at Christian websites.

I asked him what was wrong with looking at both sides of the debate and he said that the "Christian side was the ONLY side" and took away my internet priveledges for four days.

Well, what I had a chance to read seemed pretty convincing, and I want to know more. I just want to know the truth about creationism.

There are some good Christian Creationist sites, but the Atheist site was talking about things that weren't on the Creationist sites - things I've never heard before.

What should I do?

Check out Lee Stobels book " Case for Creation". This one study will lay to rest any debate and it's done well. (get the tape though because the book can get very complicated. The tape moves you though.)
Your father is right that the Bible is the only truth but it's good to know the "whole story" so that we are not destroyed for lack of knowledge. The answer is here and Lee really puts forth a good offense.
Also check out Kent Hovind on the web and look at the creation videos. If you like dinosaurs you'll like the videos.
Also Answers in Genesis is a good web sight.
Hope this helps.

I'd just say that if you are really interested in learning about both sides, try another means of computer access, such as your school or the public library, as long as you wait until your 4-day computer priviledges are up.

Saying there is only one side to anything in this world is a little ignorant, but being a pastor, I can understand where he is coming from. It still shouldn't be any reason to exclude you from learning things that you will hear throughout your life however.

Visit your school library and look for books on Darwin and evolution. Then look for mythology books; in those books you will find that every religion throughout time has had a "creation myth". Even so, if you are on the internet now, go to Google and type in 'creation myths' and see how many different versions come up. As soon as you are old enough and able to, move out of your parents' home. No one should have such control over what you feed your mind.

Your father (on this subject at least) sounds very closed minded. It sounds like it is probably impossible to convince him to a different way of thinking. The only angle I can think of that may be worth mentioning to him is that there are people who are both Christian and believe in evolution. The chances of this having much of an effect are still small I would say.

I am not going to condone being disrespectful to your father but I would say do not let him prevent you from obtaining knowledge. You may have to sneak around behind his back to do so at times but suppression of knowledge is very dangerous. Do not become a victim of it.

Your dad is being way too reactionary.
He should be sitting down with you and discussing all this with you, rather than trying to shut you down.
(As a mom, a Christian, aged 39 and a teacher-- you can tell him I said that, if you want to).
I think though you will need to wait until you are grown and out of the house to explore everything you want to learn about.
If you don't make up your OWN mind about our faith, then it means nothing.

As much as I don't think you should go against your dad I do think it is important to be able to think critically about important issues. So before I give you any advice I'd like to know how old you are (there's a LOT of scary stuff on the internet and it's pretty easy to stumble across)
In the meantime here's a Christian (old-earth) Creationist site I like:

www.answersincreation.org/

It debates Young Earth Creationism. That'll start to get your brain revved up.

EDIT:
Do you go to a public school? I'm sure one of your science teachers could give you the other side.
Alternatively most libraries DO contain books on evolution and atheist theory or you could just hang out at your local B&N coffee shop and read what they have in stock. (TECHNICALLY that won't be violating your dad's 'only Christian websites' rule but may still get you in a heap of trouble)

If he took away your Internet privileges for 4 days for being in a site, what do you think he will do if he finds you have been studying and looking things up on the Internet and library. Are you ready for the consequences? It's good to question things, there are some things that have to be questioned. Following blindly because everyone else is doing it, and someone tells you -- sounds like a sheep's life, to me. My favorite is my cousin's question to the priest (Catholic) why must we confess if God know everything we do and if he forgives us our sins? Good one huh? Christians believe in fear (God Fearing Christian), there are other ways that are not fear driven.
Good luck to you, you are on a quest that will set you on your life's path.

Ask your father to explain the difference between:

A Christian
("Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and ye shall be saved")

and

A Creationist
(The world was created in 6 days!)

BTW: Not everybody who believes in evolution is an atheist!
Many firmly believe in God and they believe that God created the universe.

They merely have a different opinion about:
HOW GOD DID IT!
.

Creationism is a fairy tale, not science. one of the reasons the rest of the free world laughs at america is that it's the only modern country with a "debate" about evolution - which makes as much sense as a "debate" about heliocentricity.

If somebody is trying to restrict access to information, it's a good sign they're wrong.

Some minds remain open long enough for the truth not only to enter but to pass on through by way of a ready exit without pausing anywhere along the route.

Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood.

Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it.
Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held.
Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books.
Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin.
Believe nothing just because someone else believes it.
Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true
