Here's the deal:

Approx. 3 years ago, I had a guy who used to work with me install my sound in my car. He left my phone number in his phone and later that night, his girlfriend called me. It was like 2 in the morning. I told her who I was and what her boyfriend did for me. She continued to call me and just sit on the hone saying nothing. I turned my phone off for the night in hopes she would stop calling. Since then, I get random phone calls from a blocked phone number. I have figured out that if I accept the call, I can go online to see who is calling me from the private number. I got the number and called her boyfriend to verify it is her. The sad thing is that she keeps calling me and it's been three years. Apparently, she thinks her bf cheated on her with me. But,I was wondering if there is any way I could file for harrassment charges. I've asked the girl to stop calling me and I hang up on here everytime she calls. I also called my cell phone provider & they can not block the #.

I would like to add that changing my phone number is not an option. There are numerous reasons, many personal that I wish not to explain. I just want to know if there is some type of action I can take lawfully to get her to stop calling me.

Also adding that when I contacted her boyfriend, I called his place of business aka a car and audio shop that he works at. I also asked him to talk to his gf. I am under the impression that he did not and that he has been unfaithful to her in the past which is why she keeps calling. I thought that maybe a law enforcement official would have specifics for this question but I see I am going to have to talk to one in person. My cell phone can not block numbers. It is a VERY old nokia verson and Cingular can not block numbers. I've contacted them already. I was trying to avoid changing my number bc I am in college and the budget is tight. It will cost me a little money to change the number as well.

Unfortunately, unless the phone calls are harassing, and or threatening in nature there is very little you can do. I see that changing your number is not your personal preference, but its the most effective means to stop the phone calls.

A cell phone falls under the same laws pertaining to land-line phones. If you are being hassled by someone, you need to contact police, explain the situation and file a report with all pertinent information and contact your service provider to alert them about the problem.

Sorry about your problem It's got to be very stressful. Don't know about your phone but my cell can be configured to reject calls from certain numbers. Does yours? Check and see. If this person continues to harass you the Police can be contacted and your cell phone call log will be the evidence. All incoming calls will show up as coming from this person.

Personal reasons for not wanting to change your phone number will not hold water with the law. They will tell you to change your phone number. I am sure it is a hassle, but you are almost inviting trouble. Don't you think three years is long enough to let this woman control you? Change your phone number, regardless of the trouble it will take. And move on with your life.

FYI - It does not cost you much to change your number, good grief.

Perhaps you are just enjoying the drama. Cuz if that's your excuse, it's a pretty lame one.

AND ANOTHER FYI - IT WILL COST YOU MORE TO FILE A HARRASSMENT SUIT THAN IT WILL TO CHANGE YOUR PHONE NUMBER. COMMON SENSE SHOULD PREVAIL IN THIS MATTER - WHETHER YOU LIKE MY ANSWER OR NOT.

The phone company which whom you have a celluar phone with, can put a phone block on that particulary number. If not ask an attorney to put a restraining order against the girlfriend. Either or should work just fine. Good luck!

Report each harrassment car to the police.

See if you can get your phone company to block her number

That might fall under a stalking law. Call the police and ask.
