I have weighed 155 lbs most of my life, but the last 4 yrs I put on 20 lbs around my stomache, and they seem impossible to lose. I would like to go from a 34 inch waist to a 32. If i want to get back to 155 lbs., should I be watching my calories as if I was already 155 lbs , or would it be different since Im trying to go from 175 to 155 ? My main exercise everyday is walking up hills but I have no idea how many calories that burns over a period of one hour. If I am successful at getting back to 155, I am wondering what my calorie limit should be to not put on those extra pounds again ? I am a lacto-vegetarian.

Males 51+ should consume 2000 cal (if you're "sedentary") or 2600 calories (if you're active). And according to the BMI chart, you're actually about only 5 lbs overweight for your height. But that said, if you're looking to lose weight, yes walking uphill is a great way to exercise and in turn lose weight. Walking at a brisk pace, you can burn .035 x minutes of cal/lb of your body weight. And that's not even taking hte uphill into account, so really you're burning more!

fill out the form on the first site and it will tell you. there's lots of good information on it. there are loads of good weight-loss sites on the net. you're probably gaining weight on the same foods because your metabolism is changing as you age. or you're not quite as active as you were in the past.
