Use a glass cleaner that is safe for plexiglass. Not all scanner beds are made of glass.
If nothing else, use a drop of mild soap and water on a paper towel, then a plain damp paper towel, and then a dry one. Whatever you use, do not use too much, and like the others are saying, apply it first to the paper towel or cloth rather than directly on the scanner bed.

Its always advised not to use chemicals to clean the Scanner glass because it may decrease the transparency of the glass.
You can use a moist clean cloth or a tissue to clean the surface.
If needed you can use some mild detergent to Clean.

I wouldn't use ammonia, but the glass cleaner should do it. (don't spray it directly on the scanner glass, cuz u'l put 2 much on and it'l streak) spray it directly onto your cloth.
Good luck!
