I've heard that pharmacies sometimes allow teenagers to help out. This is something I'm interested in and I'd like to know how I could get into something like this. What sort of training do they receive? Do they get paid? Etc...

I don't have any special training or anything; I'm 17, I have my GED and I'm just trying to get myself back on track. ^o^

When I was 17 I worked at a Safeway pharmacy because you weren't allowed to become a certified pharmacy technician until you were 18. They only paid me $8.50 and hour.

As soon as I turned 18 I took the test and became certified. I quit Safeway and went to a hospital. I'm getting paid $16.70 an hour now. I also work overnight (11PM-8AM) so I get a 13% differential on top of my $16.70 and hour.

It's a great job and if you can get in it while you are young it's even better!

Also, if you want to get certified when you turn 18, you don't even need to go to school for it! A lot of people assume you have to go to school to be a pharmacy technician but you don't. It's just a waste of time and money.

When I graduated high school I purchased two pharmacy technician books. One was a math book and the other was general pharmacy technician book (pharmacy law, helping the pharmacist, etc.) You can find both of these books online; there are several to chose from. I studied these books over the summer and then I took the soonest test and passed.

Make you you study though because when I took the test 4 years ago it was about $120 and it took like 4 hours! So you definitely want to pass it and not have to take it over again!

Good luck!

you comprehend the reply. In each and every respect all of us its open to a lawsuit or an coverage difficulty. if you're planning on giving your position away because another worker casts doubt on who stole.... pass for it. And convinced it it a HIPPA violation...... back it is going to likely be you who loses.

Check with your local vocational school. It should be able to better answer your questions. I think the laws vary from state to state.
