I'm having problems with my computer where it will not even start up, and I'm trying to diagnose the problem. I have a few programs that will help me, and I need to be able to run them outside of Windows. I'm running Windows XP, so how do I get the computer to run this CD without starting Windows?

If that does not work, can someone point me in the direction of an XP boot disk?

Hi. Download BartPE http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ on another computer and burn it to CD. Have your computer boot from the CD. It's a lot like Windows, but does not RUN Windows.

If they are windows programs they wont start from a cold boot. If you have your XP disk you can install the recovery console. Directions>

Pressing R after it starts will repair any errors in windows.
Im thinking thats for XP pro only but i may be wrong
You can also go into windows in safe mode by turning on your computer and tapping F8 until a menu comes up. You want safe mode with command prompt. after you get to the windows desktop click Start >Run type: cmd When the command prompt comes up type: chkdsk c:/f It will say it cant mount the drive but will run next time windows starts type y for yes then reboot the computer
If all else fails reinstall windows.
