I love how everyone just spits out opinions as though they are facts. Here are the BIBLICAL and HISTORICAL facts which can be found in the book of EXODUS and in museums around the world where archives and artifacts of ancient kingdoms are kept.
There is no coincidence to the number being even. It just was. Contrary to the previous answerer, not one plague was felt by the Israelites; these were plagues sent specifically upon the Egyptians for not letting the Israelites go. Each of the ten plagues specifically cast down each of the ten chief gods and goddess of Egypt, each of whom the Egyptians believed had power over the things that the plagues affected - the water (Nile), snakes, frogs, flies, cattle, death, etc. Each of these plagues were also a forshadowing of the coming plagues in the end times, where they will be duplicated on a global scale.

Believe it or not, numbers actually mean something in the Bible. A really good example of this is the book of revelation. When its referring to someting that is on this earth, it uses the number 7 and 10. If its referring to something that has heavenly value, it uses the number 12. (for example, the 12 tribes of israel or the 12 apostles.) The number 10 represents completeness in an earthly form, such as the beast in revelation that has 7 heads and 10 horns. The 10 plagues of Egypt is an example of earthly completeness that devatastated an earthly government which was working against God's will.

I don't think there was a coincidence with the number of plagues. God wanted his people free from the pharaoh and he didn't want to listen. Everytime God put a plague on the pharaoh and his people the pharaoh got more mad at God and refused to listen. So, being God he put another plague on the pharaohs people until he was willing to listen to God. Once he freed his people God left the pharaoh alone. It goes to show that when you don't want to listen to God to do as your told then you will have to accept the punishment that you receive for not listening. When you do as your are told by the Lord then he will move you forward and reward you in life.

Number are used in the Bible to express the meaning of an idea or event. The Book of Revelations uses the number 7 and 10 towards earthly dimensions . If its referring to something that has heavenly value, it uses the number 12. i.e the 12 tribes of israel, 12 apostles The number 10 represents completeness in an earthly form, such as the beast in revelation that has 7 heads and 10 horns. The 10 plagues of Egypt is an example of God using earthly means, to express his wrath against those who would go against his will .................................................................................................
The 7 deadly sins, the 4 Horsemen of the Apocolypse, 6 to identify the fallen angel, etc.40 days and 40 nights. Usually the even numbers are those touched by God and fallen from grace

No the number 10 symbolize earthly completeness.
By having 10 plagues, the first 4 were also felt by the Israelites, was to show that Jehovah is the true God and he has the power, and authority to accomplish his will and purpose.

there was a 50/50 chance i guess. if there had been one more or one less, you would be asking "why did the number of plagues on Egypt turn out to be an odd number?"

Actually, it was coincidence. All of the plagues of Egypt are seen in an area of volcanic eruption (yes even the locusts and frogs). Depending on the local ecology, there have been reoccurences of the plagues in other areas of volcanic eruption.

In Theology there is no such thing as coincidence. Everything, even things appearing unimportant have great signifigance.
Everything is a smaller part of the bigger picture.
P.S. Fireball, there were 10......not 7
