According to this person, as well as some of the people who answered her, it is OK to force a woman to wear the hijab if she is in a country that requires it, even though she is not a member of that culture, or that religion.
So why would it not be OK to force women in other countries to conform to other standards of dress?
Alot of people in the US see the hijab as oppressive to women...why should we not force them to wear jeans and tee shirts like the rest of us?

I think it is very wrong to try and force someone to wear something they don't want...whether it be a hijab or a bikini.
However that being said, the reason it is a good idea when in certain countries to conform to their manner of dress is out of safety and respect for the culture. If you dress in a way that brings attention to yourself, you have to expect that you are more likely to be the victim of a crime not too mention more likely to get charged higher prices because everyone will peg you as a foreigner right off the bat.

What appalling ignorance you display. There is no compulsion for a non-Muslim to wear the hijab in an Islamic country. The hijab is for Muslim women and it is worn as a show of devotion to God. Period.
It's a good idea to cover up because dressing inappropriately if you are a guest in a Muslim country is not going to earn you any respect whatsoever. That still doesn't mean you have to wear a hijab.
Americans, please stop visiting foreign countries. Do yourself and the world a favour and stay at home!

people who wear hijab in U.S. wear it by their free will, nobody forces them to, and America is a free country so y should they be "forced " to wear jeans and tees or anything tht they dont want to???
in the countries where women are being forced to wear hijab the "government" is the soul cause for it not the muslim people living there, so do u feel tht america should do the same??

O, First of all, if you read all the answers, it is only one that says it is ok. The rest say that a women shouldnt be forced to wear hijab, including my answer.
Secondly, forcing someone to uncover is rape. If you are forced to wear hijab, you are not doing anything against your religion. But if a muslim women is forced to uncover, she is forced to abandon her religion. I don't understand how you see it as opression. It the women's choice in all countries (except iran) to wear hijab, no one forces a women to do so.

America is a democracy which supports freedom of religion. It would be unlawful to force any person to give up their modesty which is what the hajab means to muslim women. In a country like Iran which is an Islamic government, they have the "morals police" who can beat the stuffing out of you should they catch you behaving or dressing in an unsuitable manor or against Islam. This is their country and their right. Would you practice the same repression on their women who are in our country but keeping themselves modest according to their religion? Maybe you would, and I am so glad the US constitution protects these ladies against repressive people like you.

i don't know what you are really talking about , i live in Egypt most of people are Muslim and wear hijab no body force it , also you can see your sacred bikini and jeans in all places worn by Egyptians and also by foreigners no body forces no body , i see if a woman has freedom to walk around wearing bikini it is not just her freedom she might harm a young guy who can't marry now , when he sees her he gets lust try to rape or commit adultery later , also may a married man looks at this chick and harm his wife's feeling , BUT a woman wearing hijab does no harm to no one and if you are terribly worried about her being hot , don't worry because she believes that hell is hotter , and she believes god will repay her for that , so live and let live , no body forces you to cover and nobody can force another woman to show , and i think that you have nuns in south , why don't you just force them to wear jeans like all of you , grow up babe , how old are you ten???
