Be careful telling jokes in mixed company. When all else fails, skip the rude jokes and make a joke about yourself.
As an Atheist, I have been in contact with many Christians (family included) that feel a great need to protect their religious beliefs and believers from outside influence. Many Christians believe that these outside influences will either distract believers or will somehow dampen their quality of life.
Remind your parents that the Harry Potter series is a fictional series, set in a fictional place, with fictional characters. Make your case calmly, intellectually, and as an adult. Nothing will help you lose your case faster than whining about it. If they still do not agree, ask them to at least be accepting of your choice.

I think it is world wide my sisters mother in law called and begged her not to take the kids to see this movie so much that the mother in law started crying on the phone. I think some people are just a little to serious. I am a christian but i know that just because someone watchs this movie that doesnt mean that the next day they will be worshiping the devil or that because they tell a rude joke that makes you less of a human. I think some of these people dont have much in there life to distract them so what they do have in their life they devote everything to.

i've known a few people who wouldn't allow their kids to read harry potter. they were actually afraid that the book went against the teachings of god and that their kids would believe the book to be true. it's like they'd never heard the word fantasy. to me it's ignorance. they assumed something without knowing the facts. as far as a sense of humor, well, lots of people don't like rude jokes. not just christians.

Well your parents just dont want to you to believe in fictional beliefs and become an athiest....And before you read harry potter books tell your parents what its about and ask them if its all right and make them feel comfortable and let them trust you...Remember those books are fantasy. You have to keep your faith and belief and at the same time read the type of material you like...But it depends on your parents..convince them and if they still dont like the book_ put away..I'm sure you'll find TONS of other bookks...i hope i helped!

Many people feel the Harry Potter books are too Occult.
I have heard people say, they are teaching spells etc.
I don't read them, because they do not interest me.
I read quite a bit though, the house if full of books of all kinds.

Um okay, I am really confused, your parents are against the Harry Potter books, but they are letting you read one? What did your mum say to the lady?
And you ask why do so many of them have such a good sense of humor?
Help, I am so corn-fused by the opposites.
Is it opposites day?

Because seeing as how people buy into some of those potion and spells things, as some people post here (i.e. "how do I make this love spell?" etc) people just fall for it.
