I see very few people who don't have worldly belonging's? I mean Jesus would not have a car or a house or x-box.

How do you define rich from poor?

I'm sorry that some of you think I'm starting a argument. It was just a question, not a war.

I don't feel the need to back anything up since I'm ignorant.

many people forgo worldly possessions for a time, few for a lifetime. To be fair, there is less *to see* of somebody who's given up everything. There's no house to see, no car to see, etc. And where would they spend their time? In the cinema? restaurants? do they have money? And how would you know somebody in the cinema who has no possessions? I guess I buy your observation but I don't see that you've actually made any effort to prove it.

actually, Jesus told one person to sell everything he owned in Luke 18:22 because he knew the man wouldn't and that he was not really committed to Jesus.

"The rich man lacks the trust of the blind man of verses 35-43, as well as the penitent heart of Zacchaeus (19:1-10). The rich man's attitude is more like that of the Pharisee of 18:9-14. The self-confidence he reflects, along with his sense of sinlessness, is condemned by Jesus. In contrast, by trusting and following Jesus, the disciples have given what he has asked for. They will have a rich reward, both now and in the life to come (vv. 29-30)."

Jesus does not want all of his followers to be poor, he wants people of all walks of life to follow Him. Pastors and missionaries would not be able to devote their whole lives to Him if they did not have followers who have wealth to give to the church to fund their necessities while they serve him. If every Christian gave away everything they owned when they converted, there would be no funding and the religion would die. would a non-believer give to the Church for missions work? i doubt it

Jesus was not talking to the whole world when He said to sell your possessions and come join Him. He was speaking directly to one man, the rich young ruler. This man loved his "things", more than Jesus. Of course we have worldly belongings, we need certain things to live, like a home, or car. As far as x-box or computers, while not necessary for life, if they are not the most important thing in your life then it is not a sin to have them. Jesus does not ask us to live without. He asks us to walk in love, first to God and then to our fellow man.

Jesus didn't tell the people to sell everything they own. He told one man - a rich man obsessed with his riches. And He explained that the reason he told the man to do this was because the man had made his riches more important than God.

I think he said that to a very rich man who wanted to follow him. And the man couldn't do that because of the love of money, he just couldn't sell his goods and give his money to the poor, and yet he was a good man.

Actually, Jesus told one person to do this. It was the rich man who wanted to justify himself by just following the commandments of not doing evil instead of actively doing good. God doesn't tell everyone to sell everything.

jesus gave this example to a rich young man. he asked what he needed to do to follow jesus and this was his reply. jesus' disciples really did give up all they owned to follow him. and when the first church began, all the followers sold what they had and took care of each other's needs. kind of like a commune, i guess! jesus knew that the rich young man's heart was with his riches. that's the point of the lesson. and you are right, jesus lived a modest life. you really don't need much when you are traveling from town to town teaching his followers about god!!!

blessings!

You know it is a very big possibility that all the word you read of Jesus are not his own? If you notice churches are among the wealthiest organization in the world. This fact alone is why I don't trust the bible or religions.

That is out of context. He was making a point. Saying you must die to self and make Christ the center of your life. He does not expect us to all sell everything we have and go be hobos. He is saying make me God of your life not your new sports car. or money.. Jesus says you can not serve both God and money.
