No - stopping LEGAL immigration goes against the very core of the existance of the Unites States; other than Native Americans and Inuits we are all immigrants or the descendants of immigrants; it made us who and what we are today.

As for ILLEGAL immigration there are already many laws banning it - and enforcing it is (1) a huge drain on our resources and (2) the more succesful we are at it, the more such industries as agriculture and construction suffer. Stopping it completely would cause those industries to collapse completely, causing a ripple effect that would devastate our entire economy. Ask the California farmers: thousands of tons of produce are rotting in the fields because stepped-up enforcement has decimiated the labor force necessary to harvest it.

As bad as most of W's ideas are, the guest worker program has real merit: we could better control them, we'd save billions in enforcement costs by taking away the motive to sneak across the border, and we'd collect more taxes because the guest workers could no longer work 'under the table' as so many do now.

You mean, change the current immigration laws so that nobody is allowed to immigrate legally.

Why do you think that will have any beneficial effect?

Lets push past the fact that your proposal would make America completely isolated from the rest of the world, and would prohibit many Americans from emigrating to other counties (because of reciprocity rules).

Those who are ignoring the current laws will just ignore the new laws as well. The only people who would get hurt are those who are following the laws now. Is that really your target?

I hope you mean illegal immigrants. Eliminating legal immigrants would cause many problems, and, since there are quotas for the number of legal people allowed in each year, they have control over that.
There already is a law that is supposed to keep illegal immigrants out, it just doesn't work very well.

No... immigration is an important part of our country, past and present. My only complaint are people that come in improperly, while law abiding people sit and wait for years to gain access. We have a system for a reason, and it needs to be respected. But, that said, I do love the variety of our culture, and I'm glad that people want to come be a part of our country.

NO! This is a land of immigrates, why do we call it a melting pot? I only have a problem with illegals. If they would fallow the laws I'm happy to have them.

CERTAINLY NOT! Immigration has kept this country strong and the best country on Earth but it does need to be regulated properly. You must do it legally or be deported. You must learn English and you can not live off the citizens that are paying taxes.

No. The problem isn't with LEGAL immigrants, the problem is with ILLEGAL immigrants.

I sure think there should be a law passed keeping all American citizens in. Why should the rest of the world have to suffer Americans?

This is a great country. Don't you want to keep it that way? You want to keep the immigrants out and then what? Please do not betray the very principles of this great nation.
