I wanted to refurbish an armoire - began to sand it and sanded too hard along the rims of the armoire. What do you do when that happens? Also, upon sanding down the top of the armoire, there are a bunch of stains in the wood. Ideas to fix this too? Obviously, just beginning my woodworking career.....Thanks!

I want to add that the edge of this armoire is rounded - I sanded too hard around this part and it deformed the wood...is there anything I can do here? How do you know how long to sand for?

I usually take the time to give a well qualified answer with 25 years as a professional painter and home remodeler to back me up. But frankly, more often then not the wrong answer is chosen. It's a shame really that so many people who are unqualified to assist choose to do so anyway, as happens to be the case here. Good luck, I hope it works out well for you. I need to take a break from this venue. It's really quite frustrating.

You sanded too much? What did you sand into? If you are still running into stains, keep sanding. You aren't down to the wood yet. Unless you're getting through a veneer, I would try a stain remover, and if you're calling this a career, (even a hobby), get you a good orbital sander. Patience.

You may be able to repair with wood putty. When sanding a little at a time is best especially if you are using a belt sander.
As you sand, stop and touch the wood with your finger tips to ensure you are maintaining the intergrity of the piece.
Good Luck

Stop sanding. Use chemical strippers, and brushes. Stains on top? Stop looking for more work.
