The active ingredient in Sudafed is pseudoephedrine, which can increase your BP. You would have to look at the bottle of Nyquil you have and see if it has pseudoephedrine in it. If you were taking both and they both have it then that combination (or either one alone) certainly has the potential to raise your BP. The other ingredient you may see is phenylephrine, which is in the same class and can have the same effects.

Nyquil is not for pregnant women. It contains DXM, used to treat a cough. It is a powerful drug that sometimes causes harmful side effects such as dizziness, fever, vomiting and diarrhea. It could hurt an unborn baby if there were a reaction. The ingredients in Nyquil may also cause a rise in blood pressure. Since many pregnant woman already have an elevated blood pressure, taking a drug that raises blood pressure could be dangerous, for both mother and baby. It also contains alcohol. Many cold, flu, cough, fever or pain medications don't contain alcohol, DXM or aspirin, and these are deemed to be safe for pregnant woman. Brand name medications you can use when you are pregnant and ill include Tylenol, Sudafed, Vick's, Robitussin, Hall's and Benadryl. But always speak with your doctor *before* taking any medication while pregnant.

Both of those can raise your blood pressure because they have a decongestant (pseuodoephedrine or phenylephrine.) A decongestant works by constricting the blood vessels in your nasal tissue, causing the swelling of the nasal mucosa to be relieved. Of course, blood vessels all over your body also constrict some, causing your blood pressure to go up.

It could be the medicines. Decongestants are sort of cousins to adrenaline (and also to amphetamines), and they can easily raise blood pressure, but so does just not being your normal self.

Both are sympathomimetics . So they increase blood pressure. BP comes to normal if you discontinue their usage.
