My aunt had never had a hot dog before she came to the United States from Egypt. The first time she ever made hot dogs, she thought it was like a sandwich and put lettuce, tomatoes, onions and mustard on it. I tried it after my uncle told me the story and it was actually really good.

Hot Dog Seasoning

You've got to start with good product first. If you can get Nathans, great. There is also a brand from Buffalo called Salens - outstanding quality and taste.

One of the things we do is just toss the dog in a frying pan wiht butter and cook them up to a nice crisp skin - not all the time mind you, cause there is this thing called "heart" that I'd like to keep pumping and hot dogs fried in butter is NOT something you should do daily! ;)

If you are really serious about taste, start learning to bake bread and make your own buns. A fresh bun can add a LOT of flavor! (Ok, the rest of you can stop snickering.)

I like mine in so many ways, but I think with some fine diced fresh onion and a little ketchup is a great compliment to a good dog.

Oh - put the condiments on the bun first and the dog on top. Helps reduce the spilllage!

Start with plain dogs nothing at all on them and as soon as they begin to loose interest then add some mayo nd catchup mix to the dog and soon that will not be enough so put some mild not hot mustard with it. When you are sick of dogs then it is time for a small amount of horse raddish to spice it up some. If you still can eat more then go back to a plain dog and add some spicy chili made into a sauce. Then add finely choped onion and by then you should be quite sick of eting anything.

Get an all beef hot dog like a Hebrew National. The larger one preferrably. Cook it on the grille until it is golden brown. Now, you could eat it right now. But wait. Take a nice thick piece of bacon. Wrap it around the dog and place it back on the grille. Let that bacon cook. Get a large burrito sized tortilla and throw it on the grille as well. When the bacon is cooked and the tortilla is done wrap the bacon dog in the tortilla and dig in. No condements necessary.

You can call this a-- Mexidog --TJ style..... TJ that stands for Tiajuana.

Ye, this is a difficult question. I mean a Hot dog is a hot dog. The question is do you want to dress it up to taste and be something else, if not then stick to a plane hot dog. Remember to not put too much sauces because it make the roll soggy and that is not nice. When it is soggy you cannot handle it properly. What I normally do is to either use a real meat (beef) sausage or lamp sausage. I fry some onions and let the guests put their own sauces on. Do not apply the sauces before the time because that is what makes it soggy!!!. Grate some cheese and have your sauces on the table just put a base of nice finely chopped unions before you lay down your sausage. That is it, no frills you are not making anything else but a good old fashion HOT DOG. Wash it off with ice tea or cola.

First, get a really good hot dog--although that's a contradiction in terms. A hot dog is an ersatz US cheap imitation of a real cased sausage, such as Hungarian, Ukranian or Greek/Portuguese. Yum.
Second, it's what you put on the dog that improves it--and that's personal to your taste. I generally use Miracle Whip light mayo, Kern's catsup, a good relish and just a hint of yellow mustard plus four dabs of Louisiana Gold of some other Cajun spice. If I have it, I can add grated provolone or Roano cheese also. Medium cheddar could help.
And put some lettuce with it, or diced and lightly-sauteed onions--anything to cover up the lack of flavor. If you have some sauteed yellow pepper and a dash of seasoned salt, it all helps.
Bon appetit!

Sour crout but not the real sour kind.
Choped cucumber with some crushed peanuts andmayo is good

There are many more so just try what ever you can find.

I get Texas Pete mild chili sauce and kosher hotdogs or high quality all beef hot dogs. Steam the hotdog in hot water boiling for about 5 mins. Heat Chili in microwave. Chop onions. Put mustard, onions and chili on bun and add the hot dog. Wrap the dog tightly in wax paper and then microwave for 40 seconds. (It is hot now be careful) Open and make sure it is cool enough to eat. It will taste like a resturant hot dog instead of a poor at home imatation.

There are several ways to make hot dogs more flavorful. The most important is to have 100% kosher beef hot dogs and try these simple tips.

1. Cook it on the grill - the flavor is more enhanced and smokey if the hot dog skin is scorched. (not burned)

2. Try combinations of toppings from simple to elaborate - mustard, mustard + ketchup, mustard + ketchup + raw onion. Add relish or melted cheese, chili, fresh diced tomatoes, feta cheese & olive oil. Saute mushrooms, onion, garlic and roasted peppers and use them as a topping. Salsa is another good topper.

3. Grill the bun and place sliced cheddar or american cheese inside to melt before adding the hot dog.
