I know the Pope never said he is the Messiah

Read it carefully it says that "Many" will come in my name.

There have been many Popes, and it does seem that Popes hold themselfs in a high position.

No. The most the popes have ever claimed is to be the *Vicars* of Christ our Messiah, i.e. they claim to be God's caretakers. A fairly modest claim IMHO.

I don't think the pope is claiming to be the Messiah! At least I have never heard that claim.

And the Pope claimed that he was the Messiah when?

No, I don't think so. He doesn't claim to be the Messiah. Last time I checked he said that Jesus was the Messiah.

But, since you also realize that he doesn't claim to be the Messiah, haven't you answered your own question?

Did the Pope say he is the Messiah?

No. This part speaks about the so called religious leaders who claim to be the true followers of Christ.

Today there are a numbers of churches and satanists -- all claim to be followers of Christ. I think the said verses speaks about such people.

Pope does not claim to be a messiah. But he too misrepresents Christ because he claims to be a true servant of Christ but he lives like a king and emperor! All his followers too live like kings! A contradiction indeed.

Muhammad was close to that. I don't think he ever said Messiah, but he elevated himself to being as worthy as Jesus. Actually, he said he was better than Jesus since he had to come and finish God's work. Muhammad deceived many.

May God Bless you.

I think the Popes varied greatly in how they opposed or did not oppose the gospel in history

I would not generalize

no that is talking about Christ impersonators. The part of the bible that says "You are the rock unto which I will build my church" is talking about the pope
