just to get things clear, I am all about defending immigrants.. LEGAL OR ILLEGAL... yes! you read it right... I just asked this question to point out the hipocrasy the comes with all this anti-illegal advocates, you want every illegal to leave the country and yet you would do NOTHING and you "contribute" to the so-called PROBLEM......... I know that in this case you wouldn't go pay twice as much for a room at a hilton because that would cut into your budget right?? so what do you do? rant about illegals everywhere else but then stay quiet about it when it is to YOUR benefit!!!!

Imagine a band of heavily armed religious zealots out on a cruise who stumble upon a land of milk and honey. It is already owned by others but "God" told the zealots to slaughter all the inhabitants and steal their land and live in it. As time went on they grew and grew and stole more and more land and even brought slaves from far away places to work the land for them because they were to lazy to work it themselves. Eventually the fanatics divided from the motherland and created their own country. As the guns got bigger and better they took more and more land. To justify all this they named their victims "Insurgents" or "Terrorists" or "Illegal Aliens" because "God" was on the fanatics side and everything they did was right. They even have a "Department of Justice". They even sing a little song
"This land is your land,
This land is my land,
This land was made for you and me."
So, in the name of "Justice", should the fanatics be required to return the land they stole?
Long Live Aztlan!

Truth? Until the marches last year I would have laughed if people told me there were 11 to 20 million illegal immigrants here. Our government would never allow it, right?

Now that I read about the hospitality industry saying they will be crippled without their illegal workers, I can't stop going to hotels, but I sure am more careful to lock things up.

The idea of people with no provable address or history getting into my things is not a comfortable one to me.

I assume everyone I see is legally here. But having read the statistics and living in LA, now I know that many are not. I just don't know who.

Just cuz I see Hispanic workers does not mean I automatically think they're illegal. If they can't speak English, than maybe. I don't know how you would find out a hotel employee is illegal unless they just came out & told you. In that case, maybe I'd tell the hotel owner I knew & that my hotel stay should be for free or I'll call the police!? I don't know!

This is for a_bush_family_member: just because someone's native language is Spanish it doesn't mean that they are illegal. My native language is Spanish and I was born a US citizen. I am from Puerto Rico which, just to enlighten you, is a commonwealth to the USA and the native language is Spanish. Also, there are many Latinos who joined the military and still speak Spanish, even though they became US citizens.

In regards to the original question, if I see someone working I don't judge them or automatically assume anything. I do believe people should come to the US legally. However, even those that are illegal, as long as they are doing honest work, I don't feel the need to judge them.

There's a lot of people out there who deliberately hate others and freely express it. I think that is very sad. There's good and bad people in every country in the world. You can not judge everyone, based on a few. Latinos are hardworking people, just like many other immigrants. We all have to remember that the US is a melting pot of people from all over the world. We need to find a way to deal with the immigration issue properly without spreading unjustified hate. These people are looking for a better future, just like many others have done. It is up to our government and the citizens who elect them to find a proper way for them to do it.

No I don't assume that they are illegal. I assume they are Hispanic. If I do find out they are illegal I report them immediately and demand they are deported and if they do want to come back do it legally and learn to speak English!

When a person is against ILLEGAL immigration but for LEGAL immigration there is no hypocrisy!!! We are for people obeying the law.

Anyone that claims the illegal aliens have not broken any laws should look that the term ILLEGAL. These 20+ million people broke the law and became criminals as soon as they crossed our border!

WHAT PART OF ILLEGAL IS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?

I haven't see a lot of hispanic workers at hotels (unless they are maids). It seems like construction, lawncare and maid services are the big employers of illegals here. I understand factory "sweatshops" also hire illegals. Yes, when I see hispanics who barely speak the language I assume that they are either 1. illegal or 2. children of illegals who were born as anchor babies...many are now young adults.

What is my reaction? I put in my contract with the contractor who worked on my house AND my lawn service that illegal workers would be considered a breach of contract and would entail monetary damages to myself (along with attorney's fees necessary to collect). I had to really SHOP to find a contractor and lawn service who would sign that, but I did. They may hire illegals, but they don't send them to my house. If I possibly can, I refuse to finance illegal workers.

*******
I just read your additional comments. It seems the only hypocrisy you are pointing out is your own.

In my personal life, I never assume someone is undocumented, and I don't go looking to find out if they are. Professionally, I am required to check for identification and immigration documents. If a client is not documented, I contact ICE, the enforcement division of Homeland Security.

Wow! Aren't you a presumptious lil' thang. I'd be happy to pay twice as much to get rid of them.

You didnt say what makes you think anyone and everyone has a right to come to America.

Its all about money...corps.shareholders, are all responsible, do you think for one minute that illegals would hang out here is the US went belly up...How can they be patriotic when its not their home land...Frankly we cant afford our own...To earn citizenship a stint in the arm forces might be a standard requirement....that might be a major deterant...Border enrollment effective immeditaly...But no they rather take seniors retirment soc. sec . to pay for the influx of people.

They are literally everywhere....not just in the hotels...they are mowing the grass down the street and I just passed a bunch working on Oklahoma 412 outside of Tulsa.

It should make every American mad. Why worry about Al-Quaeda when Mexico will have successfully occupied our country by 2012.
