One reason there are so many different churches and denominations in our nation is because we live in a country that practices religious freedom.

This wasn't true several hundred years ago in many countries; then only one church was tolerated in most nations. But when people immigrated here from other countries they were free to bring their own religious practices with them, and they did. Many of our major denominations trace their beginnings back to their European roots—Lutherans from Scandinavia, for example, or Presbyterians from Scotland.

Other churches came into existence because of some minor disagreement over doctrine, or to meet the needs of a particular group of people. Sadly, occasionally churches have been started for less noble reasons—a conflict between members, for example. When that happens, Satan must rejoice; one of the things the Bible says God hates is "a man who stirs up dissension among brothers" (Proverbs 6:19).

In spite of this, all Christian churches agree on the central truths of the Gospel: We are sinners in need of God's forgiveness; Jesus Christ came down from Heaven to save us from our sins by His death on the cross; by His resurrection we can have eternal life. He alone is our hope, and He alone is the foundation of His people. Have you committed your life to Him?

I think it's all in the different opinions of interpretation. Some people think a certain part of the Bible means something, others disagree. Also, some think that a certain part of the bible is more important than another. I think it's selfishness, honestly, because instead of being united in the name of Christ, people would rather argue that they are right and not be humble enough to drop the walls that separate, and approach the Bible as the word of God, not just some checklist of rules. People these days love to pick and choose what suits THEM best. If your philosophy of life isn't supported by one church, well there's 6 more down the street. We have a consumerist approach to everything and it has come into religion too. People don't seek God's face. They seek a feeling or an uplifting experience, that's why they go to church on sunday for an hour and are complete hypocrites during the rest of the week.

Seek God's face, don't go to a church just because it doesn't challenge you, and don't stop going to church because it's convicting you of your sin. God convicts us and instead of changing our sin we just run away, run from church to church, like Jonah, trying to get away from Him. It's a very interesting portrait that's painted of us, but it's true, the last thing we want to change is US. We would rather leave all the friends we made at one church over an argument and change all of our surroundings instead of being a humble person and seek reconvention. Be humble, Love God, love others :)

I love you guys :) don't settle for second rate religion, seek God in your daily lives!

This is a guess. I think some people with in a church decide they don't believe the same things and split off into a new church. I am a non Catholic but I don't say oh I am a Methodist, a Baptist, whatever. I am just a Christian person as Catholics are. It's all the same God to me.

Each denomination worships the same God, believes Jesus is the Lord & Savior, but they have different traditions & some of them view the Bible a little differently, which is completely ok. Everyone is different in their own special way.

I am Baptist & with that being said I know what our specific duties are...
-the Bible is our foundation; we believe it 100%,
-we think all denominations no matter what will go to Heaven as long as they believe Jesus is their Lord & Savior,
-we don't need anyone to tell us what to believe-we find our own truths through the Bible,
-we love to eat & join together in fellowship & praise,
-we sing with music & open our hearts to God,
-we definitely have missions as a big part of our Baptist community,
-we feel that baptism is a symbol...once you accept Jesus [if you want] you become Baptized. The symbolism in that is: Jesus was buried & rose again...we are dunked into water as if we are being buried & brought out of the water thanks to our dear Jesus,
-we pray through Jesus,
-& several other things.

Some myths about Baptists: Baptists don't believe in dancing [myth], Baptist think everyone is going to hell [myth], Baptist don't believe in drinking [myth]....stuff like that....

I think each denomination is different & that is so amazing. It gives Christians a variety to choose from...whatever makes people happy is the way to be. I have several friends who are Methodist, Catholic, Church of Christ, Presbyterian, Lutheran...it's amazing to me.

God Bless <><

You are quite wrong, if I understand what you are saying. The denominations you mention are all Christian, and believe that Jesus is the son of God. And what day the Sabbath is observed on is not a fundamental test of Christianity; it's merely an interpretation of the calendar. The differences among them are doctrinal and procedural, not fundamental.

To be honest, I'm not sure why there are so many denominations. I don't think there should be because all Christians are children of God and are in the same family. Your faith is what matters most- having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

To be honest with you, for the most part, many of the denominations share the same beliefs. The reason they disagree is because they all share different ideological practices, some of which the others do not agree with.

The Christian churches do have the same common belief in the Father, the Son, and the HOly Spirit. The difference is in their traditions and rituals, none of them, I believe, biblical. I am now attending Calvary Chapel (for 11 years already) and have found it to be the answer for me. We sing and then study the bible chapter by chapter. I have never learned so much about God and His Word in any other church.

good question, to be a follower of christ is to be christian, the details vary depending on the bible they use, which has 66 books as opposed to our catholic bible which has 73. other variants come from twists and distortions of certain biblical passages-it can't be bible alone, since this theory came we now have some 28000 different sects of christianity, due to at times bad interpretation of scripture(no offence to anyone). some sects have extra literature, such as jehovahs and mormons, john smiths writings for example.there are different reasons our seperated brothers and sisters in christ call themselves christian, i am glad they are making the effort but also pray they find the "journey home".

Because god is man made hence why there so many different views of what he wants. Or what he is or how many of him their are. The Christian churches usually have very small differences. Most of them split back in the day when the Catholic Church was so corrupt .
