Well, I am one (Romani). I like myself.
I think there are many, many people who have massive misperceptions of us and "buy" the stereotypes wholecloth, without examination, as is shown in this thread. I am sure there shall be more along shortly. I am not in the mood to address Gypsy haters. Let them hate... I do not care enough to bother.
A couple of misperceptions already:
We are not any more predisposed to steal than any other person. We are not street people. We life as we like, dress as we like, we hold down jobs and have families.
We are not from Egypt. "Rom" means "man". We originated in India and we got the name "Gypsy" by mistake.
I shall check this thread and correct any more misperceptions later if I feel like it.

They are a very beautiful people. Their origins may be in Egypt. Gypsy is a derivative from Egyptian. They have many high gifts. They are more Caucasian not any-one else, in the Caucasian group, of races of man-kind. They are a God-fearing, peaceful people ; very independent.

I think Gypsies are misrepresented I dont beleive that they are all theives and do not beleive that they practice witchcraft. I do bekeive that they have brilliant cultural aspects that we could learn from. Thay are in general good people who have been misunderstood - travellers on the other hand are the ones which you should be wary off and not to be mixing the travellers up with the Gypsies

I think real Gypsies are brilliant, but I hate tinkers and diddies. Theiving, dirty gits. Real gypsies clean up after them, respect their environment and keep to themselves.

Hi, after having a family of them living next door for two years,thats two years of hell. People say theyre not all bad sorry but your wrong you might get one thats a it better than the rest give them a drink and youll have hell to play.

it looks like nobody really is aware of gypsies, what they do, who they really are, what they are like etc so dont judge until you know.

They seem to be CATHOLIC people who originated in INDIA.
They seem to exhibit the WORST of both areas of their origins.
They have been accepted as a UNIQUE PEOPLE by the United Nations.
I personally think THE WORST.

I think they're colorful street people. I think they are thieves. I think they should pay taxes like everyone else.
