older cultures as well. And most also take the Old Testament as stories from which they can pick and choose for the points they wish to make. (Cafeteria style christians.)

Then where in the hell does the bit about Jesus come in to die for original sin, when, the Genesis story is just a myth??

What kind of ethical philosophy is it that condemns every child, even before it is born, to inherit the sin of some remote ancestor that never existed????????? (scary that fundamental christians believe this, isn't it???)

And interesting that to be really fair, the bible is not systematically evil, just weird, as anyone would expect of a chaotically put together document, composed, revised, translated and 'improved" by hundreds of people unknown to us all, and mostly unknown to each other over 9 centuries. How can "thinking" people be so gullible? (Or did I miss it completely...this type of person cannot think, just "believes".

That's kind of a straw man argument.

Like if I was to say 'Most intelligent people know that asians aren't really human and don't deserve civil rights'.

The first statement you make is absolutely false, a logical impossibility (unless you know someone with a time machine who was actually able to go back and verify).

Perhaps you have a personal belief that the Adam and Eve story is a myth, and your more than welcome to your personal beliefs, but it does not invalidate anyone else's beliefs on the same subject just because they differ from yours.

Adam and Eve either really existed or they didn't, but until we have a time machine there is no way to absolutely quantify that one way or the other.

As for the concept of original sin, I do believe you can make quite a good argument that it doesn't make a logical sense if this is a just universe. But then I'm not a believer in original sin. It also doesn't threaten me that others do. And it isn't fair to lump all fundamentalist christians together as holding this belief when there are many different christian sects that do not believe in original sin.

As for thinking people being gullible, take a look at your own arguments. You sound like an intelligent person but your own statements are predicated on beliefs. The 'thinking' comes out with ways to justify those beliefs.

Each of us is different, and each of us is allowed to believe different things (that's a natural consequence of the fact that we are thinking creatures). Just because one person's beliefs aren't the same as your own, don't fall into the trap of presuming that that person didn't 'think' before arriving at his conclusion.

You missed it completely. But not in the way you think.

If there were no Adam and Eve and no original sin, then there was no need for Jesus. So those "Christians" who reject the first 11 chapters of Genesis should also reject ALL of the Bible. On what basis, then, are they 'Christians'?

Secondly, your statement, "What kind of ethical philosophy is it that condemns every child, even before it is born, to inherit the sin of some remote ancestor that never existed?" is illogical. If the ancestor never existed, from where did the child come? And have you ever noticed the behavior...er misbehavior, of an untrained 5-year-old? Did the philosophy cause that to happen to the child or the innate selfishness of the child?

As I said, you missed it completely but not in the way you think. This type of person is able to think, far beyond the evidence. It's called faith. Science can only take you so far, then what? Ask Charles Darwin. All his scientific evidence showed that there was no change of species, even those obtained from his breeding of pigeons. So, how did he come up with his 'theory' of evolution? From extrapolation. That's what is called faith.

Elizabeth, I think the reason why thinking people can be so gullible is because they're not really thinking. I know, because I used to be one of those gullible people.

Little children are told from the beginning that Santa Claus exists and brings them presents at Christmas. They see the evidence for themselves, presents under the tree, and coupled with the fact that the people they trust most (their parent) told them it was true, they believe unconditionally.

But as children grow up, they come across more and more proof that Santa Claus is not real. They question how Santa Claus can be at every mall at the same time. They recognize their parent's handwriting on tags. Maybe the find presents hidden in a closet before Santa magically brings them. They watch movies where adults say "Santa doesn't exist". And all this leads them to discover the truth for themselves.

But with Jesus, the truth is much more hidden. All you hear are lies. And they are repeated over and over. Until everyone, even adults, believe that they are true.

Christians are so delusional that they make rationalizations for the killing of thousands of innocent men, women, and children in the Old Testament. "You're not privy to God's higher purpose." "God had a reason for killing all those people." It's really kind of sick. And like I said before, I too used to be infected with this sickness.

There is an overwhelming amount of scientific and archeological evidence that disputes the events in the Bible. There is also an overwhelming amount of textual evidence that explains how, why, when, and by whom different sections of the Bible were written. But many Christians ignore all of this. They are so content in their delusion that they don't want to know anything else.

Which is all fine and dandy, until they start starting wars over their beliefs. And the same can be said for the delusions of the Muslims.

Have you ever read the Bible? Can you truly be informed about something just by hearing what other people have to say? Are you picking and choosing what you want to believe? Does that make you a cafeteria style non Christian? I will be praying for you. It sounds like you are pretty messed up. You should read the Bible for yourself. And you are so wrong about what informed people really know. How can you explain a sunset, the ocean, a tiny newborn baby taking its first breath when it has been already alive for nine months? Even if you don't believe or "think" that Jesus is real, He is still going to judge you for your sins. God wants us ALL to be saved... you are His child. Stop rebelling. God bless you,

Amazing how such a document compiled in such a way as you say tells one cohesive story from start to finish in one clear tone without waiver or inconsistency. IT is further incomplete if you remove any part of the whole and needs no extra text to say what it must. You only trust in the authority of other texts because well, they are not the Bible. That is the litmus test for truth in our quasi-marxist university system: If it opposes the Bible it must be right, everthing but the Bible has legitimacy.

You miss it completely.
Please stop thinking that your personal opinion is proof positive.
“All of us, if we went back far enough, hundreds of generations, would arrive at the same place . . . the evidence of science [is] that present men derive from a common stock.”—Publication by the Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization of the United Nations.
“All varieties of man belong to the same species and have the same remote ancestry. This is a conclusion to which all the relevant evidence of comparative anatomy, paleontology, serology, and genetics, points. On genetic grounds alone it is virtually impossible to conceive of the varieties of man as having originated separately.”—Anthropologist M. F. Ashley Montagu

Yes, I find this amazing as well. Hitler and Stalin are second rate murderers compared to god drowning every man, woman and child, except those of Noah and every critter but those on the boat. Or in Numbers, where god had Moses attack the Midianites, and killed every man all boys, and all women who were not virgins. The virgins, the men in his army, got to keep for themselves.---- wholesale rape... oh, how nice.

I do believe that fundamental christians have never read the bible........

Obviously you speak badly out of your own lack of understanding. If it bothers you so much I suggest you set it aside until you grow up spiritually otherwise you are going to cause yourself great consternation. While you are at it why don't you concentrate on what you believe and allow others to peacebly follow their own way. Stop with the derogatory comments to others who think differently than yourself.

A lot of what Christians believe today came about from centuries of revising their history and beliefs. Augustine was one who did a lot of that.
