My boyfriends good friends are having a party tonight and I'm going with him. The thing is I'm really pretty shy and I know that he will leave me at some point and mingle and be with his friends. Does anyone have any tips that will make me feel more comfortable about mingling by myself for a while and making conversation?

thanks !!

oh and it's fine with me that my bf will be off with his friends and such I'm not upset about it or anything just nervous since I'm shy..

thank you!

ok I'm not like painfully shy that I never ever speak! I just get uncomfortable sometimes with people I don't know lol my work requires me to be outgoing but it's just different at a party where I really want to make a good impression. so anyway my point is I'm not intensley shy or anything that I never talk.

thanks

I'm shy too, about the same way, so I say just go and be YOURSELF, that's what I've learned. I find someone to talk to who may be standing alone, no matter how they look, and just strike up a conversation about their place of work, or what crazy weather lately, how long have you known ( your b/f ) him, and where did they meet him. That makes them have to talk, not you. Remember, no one knows you are nervous except YOU. Just relax, and go with the flow. You'll do fine! I zero in on the individual at the party who is "different" and they will welcome your company because they are nervous too.

I have always found it strange that shy people can end up with girlfriends and boyfriends. If they were truly shy they wouldn't be talking. I suppose that means they're not so shy after all, does it? and what is shy? shy is past action. For most instances up until now, when you've met someone you've chosen a shy approach. Chances are this happened once and you simply continued out of habit. But with a forceful projection of how you want to be, you can be a normal talker too, if not outgoing. Force it out. Make yourself talk when you want to. When you get that feeling that you want to be shy and not saying something, SAY SOMETHING FAST NOW AT THAT MOMENT right when you feel the shyness. And keep doing it everytime you feel the shyness come on. You'll get it and then you'll never be shy again.

Introduce yourself. More then likely there will be people there just as nervous and shy as yourself and they will at some point be alone. Walk up to them and introduce yourself, tell them how nervous you are and make small talk. The art of great small talk is talking about virtually nothing which in turn leads to something you both find in common. Standing in one spot and just watching people only makes you more self conscience "Are people watching me? Is my hair ok? Oh my god, does my breath smell?" don't give yourself the chance to be shy.

You'll be fine. I used to be like that too. I wouldn't think from the length of your question that you're overly shy. Perhaps you're more comfortable communicating through the keyboard. Anyhow, go to the party and be yourself. I'm sure it will turn out fine.

Just have 5 or 6 shots of hard liquor, then lie down on the couch and watch the room spin.

Sit in the corner and growl at people. Also talk to yourself and slap at flies that aren't there. Someone will come and talk to you to see if you are alright.
