Or get them to leave without being rude or seeming ruthless? Just wonder if anyone else has this problem ever and how they deal with it?

make excuses, lie, whatever, just get out of there, and fast! if they are at your place, tell them it was great (even if it wasn't), and that you have to go somewhere in a short period of time. if they won't leave, call the cops.
