Catholic means universal and protestants were those who rebelled against the horrific practices of the mid-eval church. Unfortunately many think its the Roman Catholic church and the Protestant denominations and that's that. To answer your question; 'Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off-for all whom the Lord our God will call.' (Acts 2:38-39) With this in mind we are called to encourage others in the one true faith and grow in our own. So we may disagree and discuss our differences but, "This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." (1 Timothy 2:3-4) Basically it is not as productive to focus on what might damn someone as to encourage them with what will save us all.

As a Catholic, I can honestly tell you that I grew up in a state with two fundamentalist preachers. All I heard from them was that Catholics (according to them) are not Christians and are going to hell.
What I heard from the Catholic Church was that Protestants, because they believe in Jesus Christ and even sometimes receive baptism, can be saved by their faith in Jesus.
I don't think there will be a protestant heaven versus a catholic heaven as we saw on the Simpsons (although I would certainly love to be singing and dancing for eternity), but just one big eternal liturgy praising God as one discovers more and more His goodness (which will take an eternity for us to come to know).

It does not matter what denomination a person is. The Bible says Believe, John 3: 16 For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotton son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life - it's not a hard thing to do, but it is hard to live a Christian life when so many things are thrown at us. We are to be in the world but not live as the world. Anyone who is a believer in Christ will go to heaven but that means truly believe - not jailhouse religion, or because something bad is happening or has happened but truly know Christ and believe in him with all your heart.
I don't believe as the Catholics do but then I don't really know 2 people that absolutly believe the same way. There's always some kind of difference of belief but that doesn mean one person of a different faith won't go to heaven.

Raised as a catholic, the majority of the Protestant leaders I was around (preachers mostly) would have chosen to accept Jews as Christians over catholics

For the love of God! Only Mormons go to heaven. Everyone else is going to hell. Mormons are the only ones who agree and don't have people getting pissed off and leaving and starting their own churches. And, have you ever met one that does anything mean? Don't worry, there will be lots of people in hell, and you will make new friends. I'll save you a seat next to me.

No one. As a place, it doesn't exist. If this planet is as big as a grain of sand in a universe the size of the state of Colorado, how smug of us to think there is anything out there that even cares........
