Jesus never became a Christian either. Jesus was a Jew.
Christianity is one big sect of Judaism.

James, the brother of Jesus Christ, did, indeed become a Christian.
In fact, James became the leader of the church in Jerusalem.
It was James who wrote the letter settling the dispute over circumcision between the Jewish and Gentile Christians.
Act 15:13 And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:
...
Act 15:19 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:
Act 15:20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
James, the brother of John, the son of Zebedee, was the first of the apostles to be martyred. Herod killed him.
Act 12:1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.
Act 12:2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.
It was James, the brother of Christ, who wrote the book that bears His name.
If you don't trust the Bible as your source, you may look James up in other sources, as well.
Just don't go to the same source you got that bit of misinformation from...evidently, whatever source you used is unreliable.
God bless!

Never become a christian?
Who wrote the book of James?
James was assembled for prayer together with his mother, brothers, and the apostles in an upper chamber in Jerusalem. Ac 1:13, 14
How do you explain Galatians 1:18-19
"Then I went up to Jerusalem, but I saw no one else of the apostles, only James the brother of the Lord."

there are four James listed in the Bible
1,James the son of Zebedee
2. James the son of Alphaeus
3. James the brother of Jesus(epistle of James)
4. James the son of Mary-one of the women at the cross. a/k/a James the Lesser
3.As a leader of the church at Jerusalem, James came to represent the conservative position of converts to Christianity who still maintained certain Jewish traditions, like Paul, who preached the gospel to Gentiles.
check:MK 15:40, 1COR. 15:7, GAL. 1:19, in Jerusalem, Paul referred to James(since the son of Zebedee) had been killed by HEROD AGRIPPA1 this is the brother of Jesus. 1COR. 9:5
I think scripture proves differently

He did after Jesus rose from the dead. James became an elder in the church at Jerusalem.
Galatians 1:18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas and remained with him fifteen days. 19 But I saw none of the other apostles except James the Lord's brother.

James, the brother of Jesus was a Christian. He was a Messianic Jew. He wrote the book that bears his name, and in Acts, he was an elder of the church.
In Foxes' Book of Martyrs, James was thrown from the pinnacle of the Temple and then beaten to death because he didn't deny that Jesus was the Christ.

He became the leader of the Church.
He was an Apostle.
After James the son of Zebadee died, James the son of Alphaeus took over. Alphaeus, the other name for Joseph.
Most had two names back then.
Most people think it was Peter but it was James.
He was the big cahoona.
Paul went to see him.
Gal 1:19.

He did. He proclaimed Christ from the Temple. His opposers pushed him from the Temple, broke both his legs, and then beat him to death with a club. That was after he had acted as the bishop of the Church in Jerusalem for many decades. According to Josephus, the murder of James so outraged the population of Jerusalem that it sparked the Roman seige that eventually took the city in 70 AD.
