I just got a cut-off notice from my electrice company for $400. They recommended I go to churches, DHS, etc. I have done those, but no help was to be found. I will be without lights by Monday. Even saying I had a 4 and 7 year old grandchild to raise did not even effect them. What am I to do?

first of all,

---offer a payment plan to these utilites... and if they dont accept it, contact you states board of public utilities (they govern all of our utilites we get).

--report them for not working with you, tell them of your grand children, and your need for electric.

--ask them what programs they have available; gas, heat, electric, and sometimes phone

---contact the salvation army; they help with many things, with will free up money for rent/utilities.

---contact your county social services office, ask for "emergency assistance". if they wont help, go to your local assemblymen and tell them, they will FORCE them to help you and give you what they DONT TELL PEOPLE are available. many SS offices avoid telling people of all programs/help available.

they can even give you a one time help check to catch you up.

---contact your county reps... tell them that social services refuses to help you.
--contact your local churches; find out who has the food banks, and go weekly, this will free up money for rent/electric.

--contact your local catholic social services org, they help with utility bills, food, etc.

GET YOUR CHILD SUPPORT FOR THOSE GRANDKIDS, and this wouldnt happen.

Have you tried a payday loan/cash advance from one of those check-cashing companies (cash1, check into cash, fast cash)?

They require a bank account, blank check, and a paycheck stub. Most places will need to be paid in 14 days, but some will give you until your next paycheck. They enter in all your information, and if all goes well, you walk out with the cash on the same day. Not many are open on Sundays, so try to go to one today!

They'll also have a fee depending on the amount borrowed. You'll write them a check for the amount you are to pay back, then on your payday, they'll cash the check.
