First of all you need to tell me when she matted. No one can tell you anything with out knowing that. If she is having problems you need to take her to vet emergency. If her water broke and no puppies there is trouble. So check and see if the water broke. She just might be having them in a few days, if the vet told you if not by Monday then he figures she will have them during the weekend .
so check to see if the water broke and if you are really concern then you need to take her in. I am sure everything will be fine and she will have her puppies by Monday. Good luck. Like I said to put your mind at ease you should just take her to the emergency

Has her water broke? Is she panting and yelping in discomfort?
If her water has broke and she has been panting for over an hour then yes you need to take her to the vet. If her water hasn't broke yet then you calm down a little bit, and if you're not entirely reassured then take her to the emergency vet.

If she has been in labor since Wednesday (which means that her water has broke), then there is a good chance that she has a pup stuck in the birth canal. If she is lethargic then she will not be able to push the pups out and will need a C section. If the pups are in too long they will die from amniotic fluids in the sack, and the mother will die from the decaying pups. I suggest you call another vet and get a second opinion or take the mom to the vet as soon as you can before you loose the mother and her pups.

if the poor dog has been in labour since Wednesday then I am sorry to say but it sounds like you have serious problems, call an emergency vet,if pups are dead, then they will be causing infection inside the mum to be,this really is not good enough, you are right, get her to a vet today, she sounds very ill,
good luck with her

Seriously, go to another vet.

If she's been in labor this long then there is a high chance that she will need extra help in delivering those pups.

Waiting could be a VERY bad thing and could cost the lives of the puppies as well as the mother.

Has she been digging , is she panting , but the main point has she started straining once she starts straining ie pushing then you should wait no longer than 2 hours after she has started this if no sign of a pup . You are a little vague as to what she is actually doing but if you are at all worried INSIST on the vet coming out no matter what the cost that mummy and babies are worth it ........

Has she been heavy panting and looks like she is straining? If yes, has she been doing this for more than one hour? If not, then she is not in active labor, and chances are, there is nothing to worry about.

You stated that she is still getting up to eat and drink, (even though she vomitted.) This tells me that she is not ready to have the pups just yet. Have you taken her temperature yet? One of the surest signs that she will have her pups is when her temperature raises to over 101 degrees and then drops to around 98 degrees. Once the temperature drops, she will probably have the pups within 24 hours.

Check out this website. She breeds Shih Tzu pups, but basically all dogs go through the same thing. This one will walk you through the stages of labor.

This one will show you a live birth.

Good luck to you! E-mail me if you have anymore question, I may be able to help.

She needs to go to the Emergency vet now!!! She could have a uterine inertia if you say she has been doing this for several days. Vomitting is not good. Check her temp. You could lose the ***** and all of her pups if you wait on this.

did the vet agree on thursday that she had started labor on wed.?

you need to take her in and get a second opinion
if she gets tired she cant push the pups out she will probably need a c-section

im sure if there are no pups on monday they may be dead as well as killing the mom with the toxins the decaying pups are putting off.

i think this is quite normal, i'm not a vet myself but i'm planning to become one. I think its normal coz your friend's dog will have quite a load of pups.
to reassure you, my dog had 8 pups and it took some time for them to be born. however, there is a chance that some of the pups will not survive but but all my dog's pups survived.
however, by the way you described it the dog doesn't seem to be in labour. if her waters broken then you should be worried coz maybe there is some kind of complication and try calling another vet.
hope i've been of sme help to you n yr friend.

In a dog, labour can last approx. a week. However, if the mum has began to whelp and cry in pain she should not be in this state for over 24 hours. If this happens you should consult your vet immediantly as there may be a pup stuck in her tube. This can cause great distress for both the mother and the pups!
