When you consider that almost 75% of all kit planes sold in the USA are not completed by their original purchaser... It's harder than you think!

It's not that completing the individual tasks are so difficult, but that building an airplane is a huge undertaking, and everything takes two to three times longer than you expect it to. Even for relatively simple airplanes, people invest YEARS of nights and weekends in the hobby, and still may not see the project to completion. A complex aircraft such as a small bizjet would take THOUSANDS of hours of construction time.

Are you willing to give up all other activities to spend every night and every weekend for the next 3-5 years in building your airplane from scratch?

First, it’s not that it’s “hard” to build composite aircraft parts and structures. But it is very unforgiving. The slightest error, in lay up for example, and the structure is flawed and worthless. Next, some composite process require very specialized equipment such as autoclaves. Finally, as previous alluded to both the composite materials and the tools/equipment can, in some cases, be very expensive.

Having said that, remember there a are lot of “homebuilt” composite aircraft in the sky and under construction. (Go to the EAA.)

Well I am sure if someone had the time and money they can learn to build composite aircraft.

That being said, notice that there are a whole lot more "under construction" than there are "Flying"! Hum?

Very, but neither as hard nor as expensive as I thought, 2/3 to 3/4 of a million and 7,200 hours of work. For another $160k they'll help you build it.

But that's 180 man weeks of work. More than three and a half man years.

I don't know how hard it is but I do know that allot of people are allergic to the glue and dope used in the construction, from what I understand that is pretty nasty stuff.
