depends on the reason you have to sit and how long you have to sit for. reading a book is always good.
however, if you are sitting for a long time at a funeral or other church service, it would be very rude to look for ways to entertain yourself.

it depends what you are doing...
you can stare off in space, kind fo write a story in your mind, make up the life story of people around you, read a magazine, sing to yourself and a bunch of other stuff
