Here's what she said about the trouble she's having....My laptop has gone stone squirrelly! It's like out of control lately. It has been having a LOT of popups, and twice it attempted to install software that I had NOT downloaded. I've tried virus scans and spyware scans. They haven't helped. I've tried system restore, but it wont let me restore it. Another annoyance is, when I have an IE window open, my status bar keeps disappearing! Please help. Thank you

Click start >click run >type in msconfig click on the startup tab then uncheck everything there except your anti virus and internet connection . Click ok and your computer will restart .

If you do not have firefox get it now and use it instead of internet explorer so you dont get any more spyware http://securitynewsfromthenet.blogspot.com/

To remove the spyware/trojan/virus run steps 1-2-3

1) If you have not already scanned your comp with spybot http://securitynewsfromthenet.blogspot.com/2007/03/spybot-search-and-destroy-spyware-and.html do that now .Update it (Latest updates 28-3-2007) and then run it so it gets rid of all the spyware and trojans in safe mode

1b) Run AVG Anti-Spyware Free

2) Do an online virus scan to check and remove virus and spyware if you still have viruses on your computer. And let us know if the online virus scan still finds any virus or spyware .

Or if she has a popup blocker then it could be adware. I've compiled one of those before, where the mouse pointer activates a new popup, aka when you move the mouse tons of popups appear. That would mean you would have to scan the comp, hope nothing bad happens, and... try and find the culprit. Usually the file that generates the popups is a channeler, so it would need internet help. Disconnect from the internet and then scan for the adware.

Sounds like your computer is going whacky. A pop up blocker is what does the blocking. Seems you need to reformat and reinstall Windows. You can get help from Microsoft.

Take off anything she wants to keep, on a disk or flash drive, etc. and format and reinstall windows. Unless you have a top notch virus/trojan killer, it's the best way.

1. Tell her to get Cox Security Suite. It has pop - up blocker.
OR
2. Tell her to get Mozilla Firefox. It uses your regular internet subscriber but has great pop - up blockers on it.
