Usually all quarters, plus finals, are averaged, so one F should not automatically fail you.

My school did have a policy that if you got an F in the last quarter because you obviously slacked off, you did fail for the year.

NO, because you have still three-quarters to make up for the F, (depending on how low the F is); do extra credit if your teacher will allow it; ask questions if you do not understand something (that is why teachers are paid not to babysit but to instruct and any teacher worth their salt would try to help you, provided you put in the time and effort as well)It will take time and effort but 1/4 should not have defeated you. for wxample, I had a 68% in my computer class after the first exam and we had only homework and two other exams and I was able to ace the last 2 tests and did well enough on the homework to pull out an A . It will take a lot of effort but that is the only way you are going to pull out of this predicament. You might seek out tutor help from a student who understands the material better than you and is willing to do it.

Depends on your teacher, and the points. I heard one F is a fail, some say you need the points. So just ask your teachers. I'm pretty sure one F a quarter is a failure. Its okay though, you can always summer school it!
