Is it right, that there are people starving and diying and catholics are worried about making their churches look nice and presentable, would God not prefer that money to have gone to the sick/poor. Jesus said that we must help those in need.

Well, John.....

Hate to break it to you, but Westminister ABBEY isn't Catholic, oops!

....it's Angelican....are you going to 'man up' and re-post this so the Angelicans in YA can answer?

It's been around for about 700 years. I think any structure, edifiafe that old require general upkeep and maintenance. Mosiacs very easily dislodged and need to be replaced. Think of it...you have 'mosiacs' (tiles) in your bathroom, you think it will sustain repeated abuse by humidity, ground shifts, and usage for a few hundred years and NOT need to be replaced?

You sound very similiar to Judas, when he whined about Mary Magdeline pour expensive perfumed oil on Christ's head and feet...Christ then said 'the poor will always be with us'

And your complaint about the Catholics in regards to this is...... ??......

When was the last time YOUR money from church collection went to feed the poor and help the sick? Hmmm?

Christians do help people in need and donate to charity. But so do people outside the Christain faith. Catholics and Anglicans have some magnificent Churches in England. Most of these where heavlly restored in the Victorian Era. My local Church of England church has a splendid old fashioned tridentine Mass on a Sunday the church is welll decorcated and the Altar is the focal point of the Church. The protestant reformation smashed up the insides of English Churches and desicrated them because the King of England could not marry another woman. It is a glory to see these churches decorated to the glory of God. However more money is wasted on our own material lives than put into the church nowadays. Catholic churches nowadays are very plain. You should see the inside of some Anglican Churches they are like Roman Catholic Churches before the awful vatican council of the 1960's

I am not catholic but have some simpathy both ways. the church may give millions to the starving and to help in the 3rd world. but there will always be chritsm of some spent on a church. I agree it is not so important maybe the work was done free. but even if people were paid it is spreading the wealth around.

Tell that to the woman who broke her alabaster jar and anointed Jesus. And hear the Lord's reply: the poor are always with you.
Judas entertained the same thoughts as you are.

Nothing will ever be too beautiful for the Lord.

And I don't think they took the money from the poor and adorned the Church.

LOL...you are on a ROLL today! Stop using the chick tracts and fundamentalist web sites for your sole source of research. Grow a pair and LOOK IT UP, Johnny.

The Catholic Church does more for the poor than any other organization.

We all have different callings. Some are called to feed the poor. Others are called to maintain houses of worship. there are many other callings as well - all of which have people willing to do them, all of them important and necessary in their own way.

It's all the people working all their different callings that make up One Church. It is not right for a person with a particular enthusiam for one calling to deride those who are called for something else.

Westminster is not a Catholic church, but I do agree that churches in general should spend less on buildings and more on good works if that is really what they are all about.

No. They spend tons of money on the conversion process for non-Catholics and waste money on churches. Why not worry more about helping others with no selfish motive? Protestants and Greek Orthodox do the same thing.
