Early in March, I adopted a 7-month-old kitten and had her spayed. We already have an 11-month-old male tabby, who was neutered a week ago. The two of them are now chasing each other around the house and occasionally batting at each other, with and without claws. Their ears will twitch and sometimes the female will hiss half-heartedly if the male gets too close. There is no sign of aggression or anger, no growling. He will wander the house meowing loudly as if looking for her. The only thing I worry about is that ear twitching and jumpiness. This seems like an odd game of Hide and Seek. Is this playtime and getting to know each other, or should I watch out for scratching and biting?

They are probably establishing the pecking order and having fun, too. Their behavior is completely normal and will probably taper off as soon as they get all the kinks in their new relationship worked out. You'll know they are finally good buddies when they curl up together to sleep and groom each other. Have fun with them!

Don't worry, your cats are getting to know each other and are playing. And from what you wrote, it sounds like they are having a hell of a good time of it. I would say that they are getting along just fine. If they start bitting each other do not worry, that is the best sign. When cats really like each other they bite. I know all of this because I have two cats, one is much older than the other and I lost a cat and she was pining away, even though they never got along. So, I went out and got a kitten. The older cat perked up as if I had gotten her the best present possible and immediately went after the kitten and started hitting bitting, jumping on furniture so she could swat at the kitten. The response was that the kitten started to hide and jumped out and took giant bites out of the side of the older cat and then we had a giant grey cat ball rolling around the house. I knew I made the right decision. At times they sleep together, at times they hiss at each other. They are cats. They will never love each other, cats are very independent, but they get really wacky when one has to go to the vet and one is alone in the house. They have to be together.

They are just playing and setting boundries with each other. So don't worry they are just being happy normal kittens. You have done the right thing in getting them " fixed". Having 2 kittens is much easier than having only one, they have each other. Just sit back and enjoy their antics.

The cats are just deciding who is boss and they are also playing. You do not have anything to worry about unless they are growling all the time at each other.
