Christianity was the predominant faith of Western civilisation for centuries. The western world created the industrial revolution. It is the industrial revolution that caused unprecedented interference with and pollution of the environment.

A religion should guide its adherents in the one true path of God. It should prescribe a sustainable way of life like the Mormon's lead. Sadly the Mormon's are an insignificant minority.

Could we argue that Christianity's call to go forth and subjugate the earth bears the blame for the desperate state of today's environment. Nature it would seem will never be subjugated.

Now just when I thought there could be nothing else that the world could blame Christianity for, along comes this question. What?? - Is Christianity going to be blamed for hurricanes, earthquakes and tsunamis as well? C'mon - a little common sense is in order here. Global warming is a direct result of the misuse of the natural resources of this earth by human beings - Christians being only a small percentage of the entire earth's population. Global warming cannot be blamed on Christianity any more than any other disaster, catastrophe or devastation upon this earth. Global warming is not the result of Christianity, but is the result of the stupidity and selfishness of mankind as a whole to misuse this planet which sustains us.

No, technology did.

But even if your point is taken, the more crucial question is, "Now that an unforeseen problem had been discovered, what are we doing about it?". While ALL the other industrialized (and some not-so-industrialized) nations have taken drastic steps to minimize the problem, only the USA ignored it, and didn't even sign the international accord to reduce greenhouse emissions. Up to a few MONTHS ago, it didn't even acknowledge that there was a problem.

Sorry, but your question is not so much religious and scientific as it is political.

I see no law of transitivity here:

Christianity was the predominant faith of Western civilisation for centuries. The western world created the industrial revolution.

This is not:
a = b and b = c then a = c.

So my answer is no.

You are like saying: I kissed my cat. And the next day my cat ate my mouse. So am I responsible for killing my mouse?

It did not cause it but it is largely responsible for the delay in doing anything about it once the problem was known. The same christian attitude is also what prevents us from taking real action against overfishing and pollution. Fortunately several churches are now encouraging their members to try to help.
