the problem with haiti was their own government and lack of forethought on the general populous.

When we cut down a tree, we plant one in it's place..the hatians cut down their forests to cook animals and also destroyed their habitat in the process.

The best way to solve the problem now since any tree you plant would be cut down the next day to make a fire or a house, is to cultivate the land for widespread farming like our plains states.

For a cash crop or food crops it doesn't matter, but it's better to set them up to be able to support themselves rather than just throw food at them year after year.

Next door in the dominican republic they don't have the same problems because they managed there resources better.
