what is there to believe? the bible IS a fairy tale

I think the bible is a good story book. It teaches so many wonderful morals and values. I think everyone should read the bible at least once. Just like I think everyone should read Alice in Wonderland once.
Most great fiction come from some sort of fact though. And just like the other person pointed out; we all know what happens to a story told and retold over time. It grows; and the washed out town becomes a flood around the world... or someone who said he was "god's son" (which we call schitzophrenia nowadays) becomes the lord.
In anycase; man wrote the bible. And I believe theres always a little fiction in fact too.

I do. I think it is based on the retelling (verbally) of stories. We all know what happens to a story when it is told and retold. For instance, the story of a guy walking on a sand bar may just turn into a guy walking on water. Or a town with a poor hygene problem may turn into a town that god sent a plague upon.

You may chose freely to believe by faith or to reject the word of God as myth. Either way, its no threat to you in any way. If you are right and its all a myth, you have nothing to lose. However, what if you're wrong, and your denial, rejection, rebelliousness, and disobedience cause you to lose your one chance for salvation and everlasting life with God? Are you willing to take that chance? The choice is yours.

Most of it is a series of myths. Even the few historical things you might tease out of that have been shaped by the personal beliefs of their writers.

I do, but I also feel that some stories in the bible can be inspirational. When you take the bible literally that's when you get into trouble.

Myth is the only logical answer since there is no evidence to back up the stories in the great book of B.S.

Yes - both myth and folklore with history thrown in to make it seen valid.

It's not only myth---it's stolen myth--creation--the world wide flood--a monotheist God---all were stolen from previously existing religions--like they say--there's nothing new under the sun.

Most of it is plagiarized from older myths/legends.

Yup.

Or that mixed with history that belongs to people of those times, not today.
