I read this book called "Mapping the world of Harry Potter". Great book that explained a lot about HP.
One of it's chapter talked about why Christians wanted to ban the HP books.
It said since the books never mentioned God and never showed Harry and his friends looking for guidance from God (instead they make their own decisions about what to do, and as you can see, they never pray), Christians feel it encourages children to NOT turn to God for help.
The chapter also points out the devil is never mention in the book.
So it has nothing to do with "witchcraft", just the fact that God wasn't mentioned.
Personally, I think the Harry Potter Books are great. If Christians are trying to ban the books, they are suppressing freedom of speech and from a religious point of view, freedom of religion.

I'm a christian, but I wouldn't ban the books/movies because I LOVE Harry Potter. The only reason why some christians don't likr Harry Potter is because they are afraid that children would try to learn wizarding ways, but if they tell their children right from wrong, then there is a good chance that children won't.

I am a Christian, I use to be a youth pastor, and I LOVE HARRY POTTER!!!!! My church was part of that big boycot until I did some research and proved that there was no real conection between Harry Potter and witchcraft. Doing the research was how I became a fan. Just for the record it is not also why I am no longer a youth pastor.

I am a Christian, and my mother banned me from Harry Potter while I was younger, as not to give me a chance to find witchcraft more worthy, and to begin worshiping it. But Now that i am older, I like Harry Potter, and in some ways, I think that her keeping me away from it for that time was a wise choice, because it gave me a chance to know Christ more, and to learn that what it written in that book is fantasy, and only for fun.

I actually watched a movie called "Jesus Camp" not to long ago. I was about Evangelical children and adults. They were talking about how Harry Potter would be "beheaded" if he was in the book of Exodus. I do not believe in that for it is just entertainment, I think it is silly that they worry about that! It says no where in the Bible that Harry Potter is terrible. I would not ban Harry Potter in movies or books! I hope this helps you.

I'm not a Christian. I'm a Freethinker/Agnostic/Humanist. Anyway I wouldn't ban any of the Harry Pottere books. They are harmless. They don't hurt anybody. Anybody who wants to ban Harry Potter is insane.

Harry Potter is brilliant. Teaches a lot about right and wrong. Gives children a really good fantasy world just like Narnia and Lord of the Rings.
Althoght just like the other two it is a bit violent
And the books are so well written

If you don´t like Harry Potter simply do not watch it, if it was for hysterical Christians like you there would be a burning book events all over the world, just get over it and let people enjoy whatever they like.... Thanx to HP millions of children world wide have started to read instead of been glued to the tv or video games.... Censure if fear.... If you believe strongly enough in God you will that evil does not come close to you....
