I am not Anti-religious, actually grew up 12 years in christian private schooling....

I was taught 1) that god is omnipotent, all knowing
and taught 2) god created satan, who was an angel that turned bad

If god is omnipotent, why did he create satan? He knew that satan would be cast to a place called hell, and that his children would go there too....

why why why??

Serious answers please.

even if god made satan in a perfect form, then why would he create a being if he KNEW that he would turn bad and some of his children would end up in hell.....

I just don't get it, if you are omnipotent, then you know all, even that the supposedly perfect being called satan will turn evil, so why create him in the first place?

I guess if I just have to "accept" that I will never understand God, then christianity is not a choice for me...I am too rational minded to let my curiosities be stiffled.

yes- thanks for the correction, the proper word for all knowing is omniscient...but that raises another question, omnipotent means all powerful...isn't god supposed to be all powerful, why didnt he just get rid of satan?

First, God did not create the devil in as much as He created Lucifer which was an annointed Cherub that was one of the coverings of the throne of God (like you see on the Ark). He became Satan (the destroyer) by his own choice. The angels have free will. They are not spiritual robots.

Your school taught you well, but was not good at teaching you the "why" of the spiritual realm. Do you remember the movie "Time Bandits"? God was asked of the young boy, "Why does there have to be evil anyway?" to which God replied, "It has something to do with free will."

Free will without choice is an illusion.

So what is the big deal about free will? Well, those of us with children understand that there is a big difference between programming our computers to wake you up in the morning with "good-morning father-I-love-you" and having your little son or daughter jump on your bed at the crack of dawn yelling "Good morning daddy! I love you!" The Almighty God has a myriad of angels proclaiming "Holy, holy, holy"--but they have seen Him, so it is easy. Think what it means to God, having NOT seen Him, yet lifting your arms and proclaim, "Good morning Lord! I love you!"

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, to the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace. Ephesians 1

Well it is very difficult to understand why God does what He does. I have learned that God knows what is best for us and I trust in that. Angels like us have free will, and Satan was originally a very high ranking, honored angel. But in his free will he turned a rebelion against God and wanted to replace Him with himself. Perhaps God knew what Satan would do, but still gave us the choice anyway just like how He would know we will fail but gives us the choice. If Satan hadn't rebelled he would have been something completely opposite of what he is and better, an angel of love and service. But as it is he betrayed God and became the reversal of what he was before. Of course God's will is being fulfilled in that when we decide to deny the promises of Satan that are extremely empty, we gain friendship with God. Only God knows perfectly and so "Jesus I trust in you". Also I have a few things I wanted to share with you. First is that Satan isn't the opposite of God, not an equal in power. He is only an angel that turned himself into something horrible and sinful. He has power but does not compare to his Creator. Also, I believe that God didn't create hell, and that hell is Satan's that he and his devils made. I believe that this would be logical in the sense that God wouldn't create hell for Satan or us in the first place but it is by our own choice that we go there. I also believe this because once a very renowned exorcist was performing an exorcism and at the end told the demon that God had already prepared a warm house for him. The possesed person replied angrily, calling him a fool and saying that it was the devil and the demons that made hell. God Bless and peace,
Elisha

Satan was originally created to guard the very throne that was reserved for Christ.
Satan wanted to hold the position of Christ so a great war began.
Regardless of what you may hear from the churches, no, God did not pre-know that Satan would turn on Him. God created alot of entities. Some are Angelic beings, some are souls like you and me, and there are even some that have no free will, they simply stay by the throne to serve God - they praise him day and night. God is all-knowing, but not when it comes to his children. He didn't want to create family that would be like robots that just walk around all day going "praise the Lord". He wanted family. You can't force someone to love you. Not even God can do that. Love is something that originates from within each person. God does not know what you will do tomorrow, or next week. He does not know if you will stay loyal to him or not.
If he did, what would be the point of any of this? If God already knows what choice you will make between Christ and Satan, then what sense does it make to give folks free will to let them choose? It would be like a game he is playing where he already knows what you will do. Thats weird, and its not what the truth is. The truth is that what God does know is YOU, AND ME. He knows us personally from before we got here in the flesh, so he has some idea of what you might do (just as you might have a darn good idea of what your mom might do in a certain situation, because you know her so well). But thats as far as it goes. God is able to read the heart (mind), so He also knows where our minds are at any given time. Satan was a great disappointment to God, and so are many, many of his children that already turned against him at the time of satans rebellion. Those who turned against God are on this earth today, and God hopes they will ultimately make a better decision, but God does not know for sure whether they will or not.

First, if you go back farther to older translation of the Bible-Sin means to "miss the mark" for example. We are all here to grow spirituality. God is the overall "force" that turns the world, physically and spiritually. Jesus was a teacher- he would be sad to see so many worshipping him and not following his teachings of personal growth. Don't judge the Spiriual world by the Physical- Satan is a representation of the wrong choices and the war we all have inside of us(to be bad or good) Wrestling with the Angel also. Free will is what raises us above the animals and took us out of Eden-if we just scuttled along we'd be like the dogs and cats and cows---we'd all go to heaven- but would we ever achieve the acension we are capable of without the choice and will that we have been given- that is your Satan-God is perfect harmony and good. "He" did not make Satan-it is in our power to make or break him ourselves---Read the Bible yourself, with new eyes and you'll discover alot. Look for your own answers-read everything and then decide--all diff. kinds of material---life is filled with lessons-lessons are repeated until learned. Learning never ends. All the answers-lie inside YOU!

Dear CBJ,

I think the term for all-knowing is omniscient. You mentioned in your question that Lucifer was good at the creation but then rebelled against God and became satan. Satan is the enemy of God and of all those whom Christ (God) has delivered out of the prison house of satan. These saved ones are called God's elect.

I cannot answer your question of why did God permit this. However, the the Bible tells us that the Lord is perfectly righteous and good and cannot sin. Our little minds cannot comprehend the ways of an eternal Being who spoke and this complex universe was created! But I believe we shoud speak very respectively of God because we do not know Him.

God didn't "create" Satan. You are right in that Satan is a fallen angel. But God knew when Gabriel I believe it was, fell that he would try to be the opposite force. The battle between heaven and hell exists because God our Savior is not willing to let one stray destroy all the hard work, teachings, and sacrifices he has given to us. Like John 3:16 says, God loved us so much he gave us his only begotten son. Of course, that isn't the exact text but that's what it says in modern terms.

We are given a choice to follow and go to heaven after our souls leave our bodies. Going to Hell is all in how you chose to live your life on earth. If you follow a good, honest, as well as you can life and give your heart to the Lord you will receive the gift of eternal love at the gates of Heaven. If you chose to not believe, sin and lead a spiritually unstable life I'm betting your soul will be seeing that fallen angel after you leave our planet earth. I plan on going to heaven. Where do you want to go?

Regardless of what we think, what God does is ALWAYS right.

God wanted children to love Him instead of angels who only serve.

God's Word teaches that God's ways are higher than our ways so until we humble ourselves to realize that what God does is ALWAYS RIGHT, regardless of what we think, then we will continually ask these questions.

All I have done since I've been on YA is answer questions similar to yours or the WHAT IF questions that some continually spurt out there. Some can't be answered because God didn't let us know in His Word, but one thing that I know for sure is --- that I am going to trust Him. Regardless of what I think, what God did in the Bible is right and what God does in the world today is right. God is not wrong.

According to religion, satan is an evil demon who is angry at god so he gets his revenge by sending us to hell. Perhaps people have gotten it all wrong. Maybe satan actually helps humanity by allowing us to overcome his temptation and become stronger and closer to god. Take teachers for example, you might hate or curse them for giving you difficult tests and homework but in the end you come out smarter and better. Unless of course you slack off, if you take this into consideration you realize that satan has no power over you and that humanity is his own worse enemy.

Would it have been just of him to only create those angels that he knew would never turn against him? He knew iniquity would be found in Lucifer. But it could have been found in any of the angels. It was a choice that any of the angels could have made if they were in the position that Lucifer was in. He was cherished, and more beautiful than any of the other angels. Was it unjust of God to make him so, because that is the reason he was corrupted? No, Lucifer chose to rebel against God. His heart turned to what he had and away from God, as do our hearts when we become idolatrous. The Holy Spirit will give us victory over idolatry, if we choose to repent. Lucifer wasn't given the choice to repent, but we are able to fall on our faces in humble and contrite repentance when we realize our sin, but if we neglect our salvation then we're telling God that we choose not to repent and that we don't love him more than we love ourselves. If we love ourselves more than we love him, we're guilty of idolatry and our sin the the same as Lucifer's.

Yes, Lucifer was an angel who turned bad. Of course, God knew Lucifer was going to try to over-throw Him, and yet He still created him. That's the kind of God we serve. We human tend to use our mere emotions to try to justify the acts of the Almighty. He is God, and it's about time we start to accept that.
Just like God knew that man was going to sin against Him, and He still created us. Why, you asked? Because He was hoping that we will choose wisely with our free will. But we didn't.
Unfortunately for Lucifer, he wasn't given a free will like us, so he and one-third of the angels he corrupted were cast out from heaven.
