Depending on your income, you can actually file state and federal taxes for free on Turbo Tax and many other sites. This is the site I went to and paid nothing, I got my refund within a week or two: http://turbotax.intuit.com/taxfreedom/ and the IRS website has several sites that you can file for free. http://www.irs.gov/efile/article/0,,id=118986,00.html
Although, if you make too much to qualify for any of these, you probably shouldn't worry too much about the $16; I know when I had my taxes professionally done last year it was almost $100.

they might desire to pay extra desirable, my motives.... keep in mind risk-free practices, for representation, which makes up 20% of the funds. protecting the rustic reward each and each individual; even though it reward the rich extra, pondering they have have been given extra desirable to shelter. that is an identical concept as insurance: in case you have a extra ideal residing house or a fancier motor vehicle, you pay extra to insure it. Social risk-free practices funds, which make up a extra physically powerful 20% of the fee variety, are in accordance with sales-- once you have positioned extra into the technique, you get larger payments on an identical time as you retire. Investments in the rustic's infrastructure-- transportation, training, analyze & progression, power, police subsidies, the courts, and so on.-- as quickly as extra are extra desirable helpful the extra you have have been given. The interstates and airports benefit interstate commerce and persons who can shuttle, no longer ghetto dwellers. ability is used disproportionately by employing the rich and via way of business enterprise. As for public training, the extra straightforward public colleges are those attended via the reasonably sturdy off. The very sturdy off deliver their offspring off to exclusive colleges; although that is their firms that progression from a sturdy-knowledgeable public. (if youin case you do no longer evaluate it somewhat is a progression, bypass initiate up an engineering agency, or in step with danger a producing unit, in El Salvador. Or Watts.) The FDIC and the S&L bailout maximum probably maximum benefit investors and massive depositors. A neat representation: a comfortable operator offered a failing S&L for $350 million, then gained $2 billion from the government to help resurrect it. previous all this, the federal funds is sweet-heavy with company welfare. Counting tax breaks and charges, firms and the rich snuffle up over $4 hundred billion a 365 days-- evaluate that to the $1400 funds, or the $116 billion spent on classes for the undesirable. And what part of society gets each and absolutely everyone of those juicy subsidies that the middle classification pays for ? i will enable you to verify it out.

If you allowed TurboTax to calculate your tax liability for you (or any of the other approved tax software packages), it already saved you far more than $16 in taxes you might have thought you owed if you had prepared your return "manually".
Study after study has show this to be the case, in most instances doing better than many accountants!
Quit griping and pay the $16 already!
(The answer to your question is "no".)

There are several on-line, free efiling services. I use http://www.1040now.net/, which is the site for 1040 Now.
They are easy to use and you can print out paper copies of the filed returns for your records. Otherwise, they keep your past filing on their efiles and you can check them whenever you wish.
