They make an alarm that alerts them when they are wet.

Otherwise you can set the clock, make him get up and go... ban liquids after 7pm, have him pee before and after getting ready for bed..

We do all this and my 5yr old son still manages to wet his bed, lol.

Make some sort of game out of it, or have some sort of rolling reward.

If you make it fun, he will be much more likely to do it.

My Mom made everything a game when I was a kid and it worked out well for her.

IE: Have some sort of chart on the fridge and every time he gets up and goes (and doesn't wet the bed) he gets a little star sticker and after 5 stickers he gets pizza, and after 10 he goes to Chuck e Cheeses, etc

Why does he have to wake up in the middle of the night? You can make him go to the toilet before retiring to bed and don't let him drink a lot of liquid. This so he doesn't ruin his sleep at night and for all of you to be comfortably sleeping in your own beds.

there are alarms you can buy for a kid, but the best way is to set your alarm and sleep walk him to the bathroom sometime during the night. make sure he's not drinking too close to bedtime. have you checked with his doctor to make sure it's not a physical reason?

make sure that he adds peeing as the last thing in his bedtime ritual! and make sure he doesn't drink many liquids an hour before bedtime!

we did this with my little cousin who used to sleep over alot...he'd wet the bed.

if you get up in the middle of the night to go, then wake him up and make him go too.

No fluids after 7pm/two hours before bedtime, and make him go before bed.

If the alarms fail, get him some plastic undies like the ones usually pulled on over diapers. If the boy gets uncomfortable enough, he'll get up.

Those alarms do work well. Ask your pediatrician for a referral...
