There are many different causes of cataracts: age, diabetes, steroid use, and sunlight (ultraviolet light) are the most common.

Obviously we can't do anything about getting old. Sunglasses with UV blocking lenses can slow cataracts. If you have diabetes, keep blood sugar well controlled. If you need to take steroids long-term, try to use the lowest possible dose. There is some weak evidence the taking anti-oxidant vitamins can help as well.

Cataracts are changes in the lens of the eye that every person will get with age. Cataracts can not be prevented but you can slow the progression by wearing sunglasses and taking multi-vitamins. Its all of a part of getting old. Good luck!
