I'm thinking everyone should work together to get a ban on new coal power plants worldwide by creating and then publicising a website to build political will for the ban with an online petition to show the level of public support. Think it's a good idea? Can you top it?

Does anyone know if a website like this exists already? If so do you have a link? thanks.

I'd replace the dirty nonrenewable power production with clean renewable power production of course. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_energy

Air Quality is an enviromental concern.

If global warming causes so many weather disruptions that growing crops through an entire season without them being destroyed is immpossible then none of us will be living at all let alone in the modern world. And besides I think people who want to use coal and nueclear are the ones living in the past not people who want renewable green energy.

This is a big problem. Everyone has their favorite idea. We'll need to use them all.

Even coal has a place, when coal burning power plants have systems to capture CO2. People are working on it.

Compact fluorescent light bulbs can help. So can nuclear, solar, wind, biofuels.

There's no magic solution. Just a lot of hard work needed.

We do not need to stop coal plants from opening, we need to do something with their emissions, because they will still open. However we can clean it so much that we could have 5 plants making the same greenhouse gasses as 1 current one.

This is a matter of standards for air quality more than the environment.

Just what type of power plants would you suggest to replace the coal fired ones you want to ban, or are you suggesting that people should do without electricity?

You need to think this idea through.

Definitely agree we need to face the big issues like coal powered electricity plants and the pollution from airplanes now. Changing light bulbs is not going to do it, we have to start changing life styles

Do you know that more than 50% of our electricity comes from coal? We need more of them and we need more nuclear plants. If you want to camp out and sing Kumbaya somewhere, go ahead. Most people respect the environment, but we plan to continue living in the modern world.
