they are efficient but there is still a problem I encounter every day. A light I have to make a right turn at turns green for me immediately as I pull up. I end up stopping a dozen or so cars just so I can go. Since I can turn right on red, I don't need the light to change. Why do they run the sensor all the way across the lanes when just the left turn and center lane need it? It was explained to me by a 4.0 gpa chemical engineer friend, he said that civil engineers are the d-students. Starting to believe it.

You can buy a strobe that emits light at 14hz. The light it emits is invisible to the naked eye, but it mimics an emergency vehicle and will trigger the lights to change at many intersections.

I take it that you didn't get accepted on a civil engineering course?

Lots of lights round our way do have them. You are correct, they are much more efficient.
