Black is more of an appropriate color than you think. Because it tends to go with everything, won't upstage the decor, and is easy to coordinate with, black is acceptable. Now of course depending on the wedding and the bride, all black, (makeup, nail polish, etc.) might not be the best way to go.

Short answer: Not a good idea. Wear something tastefully colorful.
Long answer: Not traditionally. Some of the old customs aren't followed as closely as they used to be, but since black attire is usually associated with funerals, wearing it to a wedding might be viewed as a hostile statement.
White is also considered as a bad color to wear to a wedding, as it can be viewed as upstaging the bride.

Yes. As long as its an evening wedding. Black with bright accents are perfect.

Some black or mostly black is fine. It might be weird if you wore all black, except if we're talking about a woman's little black dress. The important thing is that you not look like you're mourning.

I have, especially if its like a fall/winter wedding. wear whatever you want to a wedding. people shouldnt have to go all out of their way and buy a new outfit to go to a wedding. there is nothing wrong with black. the guys in the wedding usually wear black anyways.

Black is perfectly acceptable at a wedding. Just wear some bright thing like a necklace or earrings. Not white though, you don't want to overshadow the bride. Black is elegant, just dress it up with color so you don't look like you're at a funeral. :)

Yes although it's probably more appropriate for a fall, winter or evening wedding than a spring or summer or day wedding.

I would say yes...if it's an evening wedding, or it's black tie. Something in the early afternoon or something that has a spring or floral theme might require something lighter.

Now days I would say it is fine. If you have noticed, black is a very popular wedding color. I think you make it look tasteful with accessories.

No. Although the younger generation will not notice or care, the older generation will be very upset. Especially Catholics.
Black is for mourning (with the exception of men's black suits, which are appropriate formalwear). Or, they might interpret that you disapprove of the marriage.
Don't chance upsetting people.
